5-time James Beard Award semifinalist Meherwan Irani founded Chai Pani Restaurant in Asheville on the principle of celebrating fun, innovative Indian street food and snacks and sharing his heritage more broadly with the South. Since then, he has expanded the Chai Pani Restaurant Group to include NC-style barbecue, rotisserie chicken, fried chicken, and kabob house concepts.

From the time Chai Pani Decatur opened, it was a runaway hit and a reflection of the Asheville concept. But no longer. It has just been transformed, and is essentially a new restaurant, focusing specifically on the foods of India's Deccan Plateau, the region Meherwan Irani's Parsi family migrated to, where he grew up, and returns for inspiration. It is an incredible culinary journey.
