With much of the course hard against the Milwaukee River and several holes subject to flooding (the green of the 12th and the entire 13th are located across the river), one might think Milwaukee Country Club is a flat layout. But many of its holes are surprisingly hilly. Its classic design is still tree-lined, but one of the crucial improvements recently made by consulting architect Tom Doak and his associate Don Placek was to remove many trees to open up views of the river from upland holes.

Founded in 1897, Skokie Country Club's golf course stands as a Midwest treasure with elite level green complexes, a healthy dose of history, and a routing that features great variety. The original 18-hole course was designed by Tom Bendelow in 1904 and redesigned by Donald Ross in 1914 to such a fine degree it was selected to host the 1922 U.S. Open in which Gene Sarazen won the first of his seven major championships beating runners-up John Black and Bobby Jones each by one stroke.

Located in Fontana, Wisconsin, Big Foot Country Club is a championship golf course that was designed by Tom Bendelow in 1924. . Each of Big Foot's unique holes have been named for its location, terrain, or outstanding feature. Big Foot remains as intended: a paradise of golfing tranquility.
Along with a mixture of subtle and bold contours, Old Memorial's primary design feature is its bunkering. Large and beautifully sculpted, the bunkers have sand faces with long grass fingers that give them the appearance of a series of smaller bunkers. Unlike water hazards, bunkers are often just a quarter or half-shot penalty and recovery is always possible. Smyers' bunkers are dramatic, sweeping hollows of sand that intimidate, deceive, direct play and frame the course's landing areas and greens. Often, they make holes look more difficult than they really are.
