3 Magnums of Villa Creek Avenger, 2012-2014
2012 Villa Creek Avenger
This wine appears dark and brooding in the glass but then entices you with an intoxicating nose of vanilla scented fruits, wet clay, graphite, cocoa, and plum. The palate is forward and seamless with a rich texture of brûléed berries in a butter crust, curing spices (ginger, coriander, cinnamon, and clove), minerals and black tea.
2013 Villa Creek Avenger
One of the hallmarks of Avenger is its plush Paso Robles Syrah foundation. The 2013 vintage is an exciting departure from the norm. The winery enhanced this year's blend with a bit of cooler climate Syrah from Bassetti Vineyard. The resultant wine showcases all the richness of Luna Matta and James Berry Vineyard with a hint of cool climate aromatics. Denner Vineyard's Mourvèdre contributes earth and salinity and the Denner Grenache, the bing cherry nose and brightness. Sexy aromatics of roasted meats and sweet cherries transcends to an explosive mouth feel that is rich with notes of berry pie with a spiced crust, black pepper, cardamon, and a sweet-savory pan sauce. Finishes forever with white pepper spice and nori. If you must drink it now, give it a good swirl or decant to open the gates. This one is juicy! Serve with a ribeye rubbed with anise, cocoa nibs and sea salt, grilled over mesquite.
Drink 2015-2025.Blend: 80% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 10% Grenache
2014 Villa Creek Avenger
The 2014 Avenger brings Syrah from a new vineyard into the mix. The winery was turned on to G2 Vineyard by Justin Smith of Saxum. G2 sits a mile southeast of James Berry Vineyard and is also in the Willow Creek District of west Paso Robles. The new owners have re-purposed this property from a larger production vineyard to a low yield farm of high quality Rhone varietals. Seductive aromatics of grilled jamón-wrapped plums are enhanced by black berry and espresso notes. A super sexy palate reveals boysenberry pie, chamborde, roasted meats, and spice all framed by gorgeous supple tannins. This wine is ready to rumble, though will cellar with the best of them.
Blend: 80% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre, 10% Grenache
3 Magnums of Villa Creek Garnacha (2011-2013)
Winemaker's Notes: Walking into the 2011 Garnacha blending sessions I had ideas of what I wanted; purity of fruit, awesome aromatics, structure for some cellaring and most of all fun to drink. The nose shows notes of rose petals, licorice, limestone dust, kirsch, and pomegranate. The palate carries well-balanced tannins filled with a hint of white pepper, berry pie, and red heart plum. The finish is elegant with a sound tannin structure. This will give the 2010 a run for its money. Drink 2014-2024.
Winemaker's Notes: Aromas of sweet cherries, licorice, gingerbread and wild herbs introduce a well balanced palate of juicy red berries, wet stones, and a hint of cinnamon. Warm chevre with a drizzle of honey anyone? Drink 2014-2025.
Winemaker's Notes: The 2013 Garnacha is equal parts Denner Vineyard and Luna Matta Vineyard Grenache. In the glass the wine shows a vibrant garnet hue. Aromas of black cherries, anise and a hint of California Bay lead to a bold, juicy palate that shows beautiful purity and precision. Chocolate covered violets and caramelized bacon fat are followed by white pepper spice that lingers. The mouth feel is both juicy and grippy. Enjoy it (like we did!) with Pamplona chorizo and Mt. Tam cheese and Mary's Black Pepper Seed Crackers. Drink 2015-2025.

2017 Stag's Leap AVETA Sauvingon Blanc
Winemaker's Notes: The 2017 AVETA Sauvignon Blanc offers expressive aromas of tangerine, lemongrass, nectarine and a hint of grass. On the palate, this top-rated Napa wine is fresh and lively with citrus flavors and a touch of orange blossom. The wine has a lingering finish with bright acidity.
