The Art Inside the Bottle
Live ItemEnjoy a unique evening at the NC Museum of Art for three couples on June 8th from 7pm - 9pm for "The Art Inside the Bottle" presented by The NC Museum of Art, Vitis House, and Catering Works! As part of this package each couple will also receive a wine trio tote bag which includes one sparkling wine, one red wine, and one white wine.
As with paint and music, wine is an expression of art, executed with feeling and passion. While Nature works to strike the proper chords, the winemakers' aim is to discover and evoke the very soul of the grape, just as the artist works to communicate through visual materials across time and distance.
This in-person event is a creative embrace of the reimagining of the People's Collection! Together with NCMA curator Maya Brooks, Assistant Curator of Contemporary Art, and Vitis House owner and wine educator, Doreen Colondres, we will dive into Identity, Place, and Power as themes that contextualize works of art and wine in specific and inspiring ways.
Join us on June 8th from 7pm-9pm for a very special evening to explore history, tradition, and process behind winemaking and artmaking at The Art Inside the Bottle. You will foster new insights in an immersive, sensory experience! Seven wines with custom-designed food pairings will be served as Maya speaks in person to share her expertise on seven important works of art from the Museum's Collection.

Williams Sisters Art Print
$450Enjoy this art photography print by local artist and educator, Barbara Tyroler!
Title: Williams Sisters, 5
Series: Greenbelt Pool Series
Dimensions: approximately 35"x22"
Notes: Unmatted and Unframed
This portrait of the Williams Sisters was created in the Greenbelt Aquatic Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, a planned community created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Resettlement Administration during the Great Depression. Just a few miles from the nation's capital, Greenbelt was originally racially segregated until 1967 when the City Council voluntarily adopted non-discrimination policies. Many children of color came from generations of African American families who were barred from swimming in public pools. As the grandparents and then parents of many children of color in the south did not have the essential skills in water safety, community pools now offer free swimming lessons for both adults and children to teach them survival skills. This print from the Williams Sisters Collection was created on archival Iris print paper, one of the early digital image-making technologies with the capacity for stable ink absorption. In this series, two sisters in a swimming class contemplate their reflections through plexi mirrors submerged underneath the surface of the water.
Barbara Tyroler is a Chapel Hill artist, educator and photographer. She explores how the photographic image evokes and conveys meaning , creating and recreating stories and memories beyond the frame.

His songs are the kind of get-stuck-in-your-head pop nuggets that draw comparisons to Elvis Costello, Fountains of Wayne, and Paul Simon rather than simple nursery rhymes, prompting USA Today to call him "hands-down the best songwriter in the genre.
