"The square is the focal point of downtown Franklin with its monument of a Confederate soldier surrounded by cannons. This piece, more than most from my collection, explodes with images as if fired off by a bunch of Apple and Android cyber cannons: Big Bird, Kanye, Wonder Woman, Harry Potter, Saweetie the rapper, a zebra, a roaring bear, a cheerleader, books, toilet paper, rippling fabric, chocolates, plush toys and protesters in Cairo. It's a hectic aesthetic, revved up like a lean, mean Saturday night redneck hooking round a few dozen freaked out donut loops around the circle. But the hour captured here is dusk, and the cars in the scene are civil, waiting their turn. Even still, things aren't normal. Hollywood and art history and 21st century Forbes Magazine executives slink around unexpected places. Munch's loner wails as if weighing whether he can bear the horror of crossing the double yellow lines. Mona Lisa wonders what you think from a window beneath Taylor Swift's green face in the trees. Mike McKinney Handcrafted Artisan Wooden Bowl

Woodturner Mike McKinney hand turns each bowl, making them completely UNIQUE and no two are the same.

*Hand wash only. Do not soak. Dry thoroughly to prolong the life of the wood. Do not place in dishwasher, oven or microwave.

An important fact to remember is that each bowl is made individually from dry roughed out blanks and since they don't start out the same and they are hand turned a set of salad bowls will have variances, size, thickness, color, etc.

Each bowl, when taken care of properly, will bring years of enjoyment to it's owner.

Mike McKinney is a fourth generation woodworker who had an opportunity to work in the shop with both his dad and granddaddy. His granddaddy, Paul, was his most impressive hero and was very pleased when Mike was with him in the shop. "Granddaddy made me a workbench from an old wooden crate, he attached a V-block for planning against, gave me a Staley #4 plane, a hammer, all the nails I wanted, a handsaw and scraps of wood. He was happy for any time I might be able to spend with him."

Mike was active in the NC Woodturners group while his dad's health allowed him to go, and currently the Carolina Mountain Woodturners where, in both clubs, he has had the benefit of seeing and hearing world class woodturners describe "what and how they do it." He took a week long class with John Jordan (his favorite woodturner) at Appalachian Center for Craft in 1994. He might say he is self-taught, but would give a lot of credit for these exposures. He says, "The turning clubs and associations are so very helpful and information to turners and collectors at any level."

Carolyn Beehler artwork: "The Factory of Franklin"

Carolyn Beehler is a paper artist living in Franklin, Tennessee. She was born in California but grew up in the South. She attended elementary school on Henpeck Lane and later a classical Christian school and finally art school at O'More College of Design. She spent the rest of her twenties moving around to disparate places including Shanghai, Italy, L.A. and Bloomington, Indiana, because she worried she'd settle down and never get to see the world. Besides art, she likes learning about gardening, shoe design, woodworking and writing.

From the artist:

"This is my big one. I like to have one or two large statement pieces per collection, and this 3'x4' is my statement piece for the Unprecedented collection. Besides, you can't convey such an airy and expansive space on a small scale.

Also unique to this piece is the higher perspective at the top of the stairs, across from Jeni's. The higher perspective pulls you up into the narrator's realm where you see the big picture, both literally and mythically. Or, for that matter, make that mental shift in the first place to discover that here might be a story, not just a picture.

Though the people are parked in their conversations, you definitely feel currents moving around, as if the concrete floors were turning into streams and rivers. Most of the floor is wrapped or swirled with jewels or flowers or reptilian skin. To the left a cluster of yellow letters gives the impression of a brushfire, and to the right is a bored beagle plopped down amidst golden jewels. Some pieces of paper are cut and layered to resemble cat scratches. Other sharp angles emerge here and there, a high heel or a broken flag scooting along a crevice.

Paper painting is an art form that shuffles familiar word and image associations out of their normal habitats to shuffle the synapses in your own mind. The point isn't to be just silly, as in a giant upside-down goose. What is cool and meaningful about paper painting is that it keeps you on your toes, to look like a baby with wonder, not presumption, at a moment in history unfolding. A flamingo zooming toward a hand, a hand Michelangelo painted for Adam, suspended like a puppeteer above a dad's ball cap, twists your expectations just enough to mute your left brain and give your right one a chance to speak."

Historic Wyatt Hall Tour for 6 and Tea in the Gardens

This unforgettable and rare experience gives a glimpse into a historic home that is older than the town of Franklin itself. You and five guests will tour the grounds of this gorgeous, idyllic property with the owners and enjoy tea in the gardens.

Wyatt Hall, built between c1800-1810, stands just north of historic downtown Franklin, Tennessee.

Located on an 11.5-acre portion of the original Revolutionary War land grant between Major Anthony Sharp and David McMahon along Columbia Pike, the property is enclosed by historic stacked stone walls and shaded by persimmon, maple, and magnolia trees. Its original spring house - as well as its spring, a branch off Spencer Creek, may still be seen via the road. The house, which is nearly as old as the town of Franklin, is an excellent example of late Federal architecture and remains virtually unaltered structurally.

The house today is a two-story, rectangular-shaped brick building, resting on a hand cut limestone foundation. Only one addition to its first floor - the original breezeway - became the formal dining room, enclosed in the 1840s, connecting the kitchen and smokehouse. Wyatt Hall's interiors retain its original staircase and woodwork as well as its original Federal fireplace mantles and poplar floors.

Even in the historic house museum world, it is a rarity to find a home untouched by the hands of modernization. And while Wyatt Hall is a private residential home, those who have been its caretakers over time, including its current owners, recognize their responsibility to steward the property as a preserved historic home and grounds.

After graduate school, Scott established Chaos Glass and Metalworks and built it from the ground up. Hodes' work has been shown at Disney's Festival of the Masters, the Tennessee Governor's Inaugural Ball, and was featured on NPT's Tennessee Crossroads television program. His work is also found in the permanent collections of the Tennessee Governor's residence, the Tennessee Arts Commission, and the Tennessee State Museum.
