About the Item

Two bronze, collectible souvenir anvils made by long time friends Bill Gichner and Mack Beal. Beal's dated 1999 and Gichner's dated 2004, the year of his passing.

About the Artist

Gichner was one of the sons of the owner of Gichner Iron Works. After working there, he went on to open his own shop, Iron Age Antiques. According to a bio written by the Preservation Trades Network, "throughout his career Bill Gichner worked tirelessly to advance the trade, or art, of blacksmithing by formally and informally teaching the subject everywhere he could." He passed on December 8, 2004.

Beal worked as an artistic blacksmith, and served on the board of directors of the Artist-Blacksmith Association of North America for ten years. In 2005, Beal received the prestigious Alex. W. Bealer Award, for his impact and contribution to the field of blacksmithing. Beal passed on September 3, 2014 at 90 years of age.
