I enjoy making jewelry from repurposed materials, in this case, bottle caps. It is satisfying to reuse materials with a short initial purpose to create jewelry of enduring beauty and use.

About the Artist

Marlene True is a metalsmith, obsessive collector of tin cans and other ephemera with the intent of repurposing. Sharing her enthusiasm for working with these materials Marlene enjoys teaching. As a guest artist, she has taught at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, Penland School of Crafts, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft and West Dean College in the UK. Making her home in Eastern North Carolina, flora and fauna found there and in her travels provides abundant inspiration for her work.

Marlene earned her MFA at East Carolina University and her BFA at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.

Her work is part of the collections of the National Ornamental Metal Museum in Memphis, TN, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, The Racine Museum of Art in Racine Wisconsin and the Enamel Arts Foundation in Los Angelos, CA. Marlene volunteers extensively and has served on the Board of Directors for the Society of North American Goldsmiths. She continues to make jewelry and is the Executive Director of Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft in Columbia, NC.
