The Black Lives Matter protests during the summer of 2020 inspired me to paint about the clashing forces in our society. I wanted to give voice to the belief that divided we fall and was surprised by friends' comments that there was so much light amidst the dark conflict shown in my painting. When I heard Amanda Gorman recite her Inauguration poem for President Biden, I realized she had given words that expressed my beliefs also. That is when I chose the title: For There is Always Light.
