Our 2021 Gala Honorees
Chris Byrns - Valued Volunteer Award
Chris has been a valued volunteer for many, many years. She has volunteered in the nursery, the pre-school and the administration building. The children always grow quite fond of her. The GSS staff does as well! Chris can always be counted on to make time to help out, sometimes at the last minute. We feel very blessed to have her unwavering support.
Pamela Gripp - Lifetime Angel Award
Pam has worked tirelessly as a volunteer at Good Shepherd Shelter for decades in many capacities from hosting summer parties for the families to supporting the science program in the Shelter school. She was even the Principal of the school for a time! Pam also served as Board President and as Gala Coordinator. Her family "adopted" a family who had graduated from the Shelter and has kept in contact with them for years. Her decades long commitment to Good Shepherd Shelter has served countless families over the years and we couldn't be more grateful to her.
Humanitas Ex Animo - Youth Leadership Award
Humanitas Ex Animo is a non-profit organization founded by seventeen year-old Spencer MacLeay. Joined by longtime friends Charlie Simpson and Zach Dawson, these young men have set a wonderful example of leadership and are strong, positive male role models for all of our shelter children, something that many of them desperately need.
Sr. Mary Carolyn McQuaid - St. Mary Euphrasia Award
Sr. Mary Carolyn embodies the mission of Good Shepherd Shelter with zeal and commitment so it is only fitting that she receive this award. Sr. Mary Carolyn's dedication to ending the cycle of domestic violence through education, counseling and steadfast support throughout the families' healing processes is foundational to Good Shepherd Shelter.
Geri Simmons - Mission Partner Award
Geri has supported Good Shepherd Shelter for over 25 years, both as a volunteer and as a foundation partner. As a member of the Volunteer Guild, Geri spearheaded numerous fundraisers and events for the families. And as a board member of the Bob and Dolores Hope Foundation, she has helped to build a strong mission partnership which has greatly benefited numerous families for many years.
Robert A. Smith III - Community Service Award
Rob has been both a personal donor and friend to the Shelter as well as a tremendous supporter of Good Shepherd Shelter as President of the Carrie Estelle Doheny Foundation. Through the Foundation, he is also a generous supporter of so many in need in the Los Angeles community at large. Part of Good Shepherd Shelter's mission is to promote advocacy within the community and Rob has supported those efforts through his own service to the community.
City National Bank - Corporate Champion Award
City National Bank and their Women's Network have been showing our shelter families what love looks like for years by sponsoring fundraisers on the shelter's behalf, making capital improvements to the campus and generously donating funds, goods, and resources. They are also graciously sponsoring the VIP pre-reception at this year's gala in-person watch party. Good Shepherd Shelter is very grateful to City National Bank and the Women's Network for their commitment to help us end the intergenerational cycle of domestic violence.
