A true labor of love. The quilter, Suzanne Kresser, has always enjoyed the pastime of quilting. She reached out when she heard about the LLS Charity Auction and Gala, she wanted to give back.

At 16 years of age (2002), her son was diagnosed with T cell ALL - Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. Eric is one of the lucky ones. A few decades ago, there were very low cure rates in both children and adults diagnosed with ALL. Today, childhood ALL has one of the highest cure rates of all childhood cancers. Eric is now happily married to a wonderful woman and they have two adorable children.

Over the years these coveted hand turned wooden bowls were donated for prior Leukemia Cup fundraisers. We are so fortunate to have Bobby Frey, an active member of Annapolis Yacht Club, donate one of his late father's stunning bowls. This piece is truly a work of art.

Now a little about the late wood turner, fondly known as "Pop."

While volunteer teaching Robert Frey developed his wood turning skills, producing thousands of bowls which were sold in various specialty shops throughout Maryland. His bowls received 1st place ribbons annually at the MD State Fair, and he was one of the few wood turners given wood from the famed Wye Oak.

Also an avid sailor, Pop and his family spent summers on the Magothy River and was a past member of the Annapolis Yacht Club.

Matted & framed account by Yachting magazine (April 1968 issue) of lessons learned from the 1967 Annapolis-2-Newport Race, when boats were dismasted, retired from the race, and at least one boat was lost.

For Gary Jobson, the three-time All American sailor, America's Cup winner, Fastnet Race winner, and ESPN sailing commentator since 1985, sailing is life.

In 2003, he was diagnosed with lymphoma, and here he relays the tumultuous diagnosis and treatments endured before the cancer went into remission.

Through remission he remembers how his life has intertwined with some of the greatest sailors, how the sport has changed since his childhood, how the public view of sailing went through a revolutionary change with the advent of ESPN, how sailing can create lasting bonds of friendship that endure, and how sailing offers everything from the highest of adventures to the simplest of pleasures.
