NFL official football signed by Chris Massey. Chris attended Marshall University and was a four-year starter at long snapper. He was selected by the St. Louis Rams in the 2002 NFL Draft. During his career he made clean snaps on 702 out of 703 attempts including a run of 528 consecutive clean snaps.

This is a signed football from Ahmad Bradshaw who was a running back
for Marshall and two-time super bowl champion while with the NY Giants. He was from the Bluefield (VA) area and currently resides in WV. Ahmad is one of eight running backs in NFL history to be the leading rusher in two Super Bowls. Additionally, Ahmad was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017. This football is a gift any Marshall or NFL fan would love!

Included is a display case for this awesome piece of sports memorabilia.

PEACE
This simple design of a circle and three lines was the brainchild of British graphic designer Gerald Holton. He was given the job of coming up with a visual for the nuclear disarmament march in London in 1958. The artist used the semaphore letters "N" (Nuclear) and "D" (Disarmament) to create the image.

Soon, the symbol started appearing throughout Europe and elsewhere. Eventually, it made its way across the Atlantic to the United States where it became a symbol for the American anti-war movement and associated social justice fights.

Primary II decided to promote Peace through the community project of creating a peace sign in mosaics. The children had the opportunity to observe every step of the process. The extended-day were involved in sorting the tiles, placing them on the stone, and grouting, the final step that reveals our mosaics. Thank you to Jennifer Preston, our Mosaic supervisor !

What the world needs now is... each other.

This auction is for a glass dinnerware set for six:

We realized during this difficult year: What the world needs now is EACH OTHER.

For many of our families, quarantine made way for more frequent and quality meals together, and returning to school after six months of being apart made us realize at MMS how important we are to each other.

So to represent those sentiments, the children interviewed a friend about their favorite things and illustrated something they learned on a piece of dinnerware.

Each piece is painted on the back so no food or drink will ever touch the non-toxic paint used.

For whoever takes this set home, our hope for you is that you have many meals and make many beautiful memories with those you love.

Lower Elementary II believes that what the world needs is love, and represented this by creating a quilt of hearts. Students chose fabrics to represent themselves and sewed their own quilt blocks on a sewing machine. Students also helped to assemble and sew the quilt together with guidance from Sarah Galaska. This quilt measures approximately 70"x70" and is 100% cotton. It also comes with a chart to show which student created each heart.

Upper Elementary I students each learned to sew a traditional "yo-yo" piece. Over time they worked on them independently and created over 50 yo-yos to include in the class project. Recently the students viewed multiple quilts and design concepts before collaborating together to come to a final design plan. They chose the positioning of the pieces to reflect the waves in our oceans and the hills on our land. They asked for the border to highlight the words "courage, love, and kindness" and the background fabric chosen has many positive messages communicated in ASL, such as "you got this" and "it's all good".

In many cultures around the world, the almond blossom represents hope, new life, and harmony. In Greek mythology, the almond blossom represented "eternal love that cannot be defeated." Almond blossoms are the first trees to blossom in many countries.

Van Gogh created "Almond Blossom" in 1890 as a gift of hope, love, peace, and harmony to his newborn nephew. He was deeply inspired by the new life that emerges between the spring equinox and summer solstice. He believed the almond blossoms to be that of hope and peace as a blessing for the new life of his nephew. Our class couldn't think of a better way to express what the world needs now: love, hope, peace, and harmony.

We took a print of the painting and made a 5x5 grid with canvas paper. Each student painted 1-2 squares of the grid. We put the squares together then outlined the branches, blossoms, and blended the background. The final painting was completed by using modpodge on the squares to fit our frame and adding LED lights for an ambient effect. Finished size is 25" x 25"

Up for bid is a 40" x 40" canvas print of an original painting by Middle School students

In 2019, MMMS students collaborated with Charly "Jupiter" Hamilton to answer the question, "What gives your heart wings? The result was an amazing 49" x 49" painting that continues to capture the imagination. This year's gala project is the companion piece to the original piece, but with a twist.

"What the World Needs Now" features our community's wishes, for what we want more of, and what we are ready to see go away. Students thoughtfully reviewed this piece from several angles, including Covid, social justice, humanitarian crises, war...yet their vision for an innovative, equitable, peace loving and fun world shines!

The students will release only one signed and numbered canvas print copy of this beautiful piece; the original will join the first piece in our classroom. The lucky winner will take home a 40" x 40" canvas print of the original.

Reflection...

When I look into this mirror, what exactly do I see? Am I looking at the person that I ought to be? Do I see someone that strives to make this world a better place? Or am I only interested in looking at my face?

The Lower Elementary Plus children assisted in the creation of this Gala auction mirror. The intention of this piece, titled "Reflection", is to direct the gazer's attention toward self-reflection. As a Montessori community, hopefully we all have made the conscious decision to take on the responsibility of striving to make this world a better place. Through our thoughts, attitudes, words and actions we reflect what is best for our fellow man. This was Maria Montessori's goal and one that binds us together as advocates of the Montessori Method in educating our children...to unite the world through love.

Every day, the opportunity for lessons in the art of Grace and Courtesy presents itself. The young Primary children who make up the Plus "Lunch Bunch" are just beginning to learn what it means to be part of a community, no matter how small. And there is much to learn! Most recently, we have been reading stories that deal directly with looking beyond oneself, and the impact one's actions can have on others. As abstract as these concepts are for the very young, it is of utmost importance that they begin this journey now! This emphasis on "it's not just about me" dovetails nicely with this year's Gala Theme, "What the World Needs Now" . To carry out that theme, the children assisted in making a set of eight wooden plaques titled, "More than Just Words...Actions"
