In her recent work, Diana Schmertz laser cuts watercolor paintings transforming the paper into an object that is made out of words. By using two strongly contrasting techniques, handmade and machine made, the physical work reinforces the conceptual idea that sensory/emotive understanding is fundamentally connected with analytical logic. The final art pieces are objective and intuitive, mechanical and intimate. Whether the viewer chooses to focus on the "rationality" in the text or the "sensory" in the bodies each remains equally significant within the physical object itself.

Arlene Rush's conceptual multidisciplinary work expands to sculptural objects, installations, and digital photography. Influenced by her own life and world events, the artist explore issues surrounding women's rights, gender, identity, and the political and social climate of our era. She create sculptures, life casts of myself along with interactive performances; appropriates and alters massed circulated objects - either material or virtual - and outline the increasing consumerism of late capitalism.

Barry Mason is an artist and photographer living in Mount Vernon, NY, and a Pelham Art Center instructor and Board Member. He was educated at The Corcoran School of Art and Indiana State University. " I see myself as a "composer" when I construct my large shaped and sculpted abstract paintings. As I'm creating, I feel an ancestry spirit pulling me far back to an ancient African trail. I hear their chant and it motivates me to extend my creative reach and change the boundaries thru my love of shapes."

Elaine Jeffrey is a Scottish visual artist working in the medium of photography. She created "the language of light" images in order to represent how light interacts between objects in minute detail. Using available daylight, Jeffrey places colorful daily objects into very plain background settings and identifies a point, or space where the object and the background light/color mingles. By shifting the camera lens into soft focus mode, the colors merge transforming the object into a representation of itself by its color. Her body of work is thus an interplay between technological possibilities (as cameras ability to fix areas that the eye cannot) and human/emotional responses to light as we perceive it through color. Her "lemon drop"photograph won the Directors Award in an international exhibition at the Center of Fine Art Photography in Colorado, USA in December 2018.

Satish Joshi's paintings and monotype prints comprise a body of work in an aesthetic style and artistic technique which he has developed and refined over the decades. His highly individual painting style is achieved with a mixed media combination of acrylic modeling paste, gesso, and oils, through which he portrays his illusory three-dimensional effect of forms abstracted from nature.

Satish Joshi holds an Honors Degree in painting and printmaking from the New Delhi College of Art. He settled in New York in 1969 and promptly embarked on a career as painter, printmaker and sculptor, with works in local collections and exhibitions throughout the United States. As a teacher he was a member of the Riverdale Country Day School Visual Arts Department from 1974-2011, where he inspired generations of students to embrace the arts. He is currently Artist-in-Residence at School of the Holy Child in Rye, New York and teaches Abstract Painting at Pelham Art Center. Satish was on the Board of Directors of Phoenix Gallery in New York City, and is a founding member of Art on Main Street in Yonkers.

Nancy Nikkal

Nancy Egol Nikkal has been teaching the art of collage for more than 30 years, including classes at the Pelham Art Center and exhibition-related collage workshops at William Paterson University, the Newark Museum and the Morris Museum in NJ. Collage classes include demonstration, discussion and personal critique of works in progress.

Her current studio practice is painting with acrylic on canvas and collage with painted papers on canvas and panel. Her works are included in public, private, hotel and corporate collections throughout the United States, Canada, Japan, New Zealand and the Republic of Singapore.

Eleanor Grace Miller

A classically trained artist, Eleanor Grace Miller received her BA from Monmouth University, where she studied under Eleanore Mikus, a vanguard Minimalist, and Bernard Aptekar, one of the original SOHO Ten Downtown, and continued her studies at the National Academy School of Fine Arts. Miller has exhibited extensively throughout the East Coast, both in fine art galleries and corporate venues, and is the recipient of numerous awards, including Best of Show at the Museum of Fine Arts, Springfield, MA, the Anna Hyatt Huntington Award from the National Arts Club, and the Gamblin Artists Award from the Salmagundi Club. Her work is in both private and corporate collections. She is currently on the faculty at RoCA and the Pelham Art Center.

This print was produced in conjunction with the REVIVIVAL public art project by Sara Jimenez and Jason Schwartz. The public banners and accompanying prints are composed of manipulated photos taken of the nearby coastline of Pelham Bay. The layout and geometry of each triangle refer to the pitched gables of Tudor Revival architecture that pervade the Village of Pelham and surrounding suburbs. The inverted gables of the piece point downward, toward the earth.

In their explorations of the architecture and landscape of the region around Pelham, the duo has been drawn to locations where the material of human habitation interacts with natural processes. This blurring of boundaries via the shared presence of remnants of natural phenomena and human histories is a core inspiration for the piece.

Frank Guida

Frank Guida graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, continuing his art education by attending postgraduate art courses at the College of New Rochelle and the State University of New York at Purchase. He has been a drawing teacher for over thirty years. Currently he is teaching at the New York Botanical Garden and the Pelham Art Center. An award winning artist, Frank is represented in numerous art collections. Outside of art, Frank is also an active birder and orchid collector. He participates in the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count and the Hawk Migration Association of North America.

Arthur R. Momand was an early American newspaper comic artist. He began his career as a sketch artist for The New York World in 1907. He also created several series for the paper, including 'Mr. I. N. Dutch'. In 1913, he created the strip 'Keeping up with the Joneses.' Momand drew his parody of American domestic life for about 150 daily newspapers in the United States and Canada from 13 March 1913 until 16 April 1938, and always signed it Pop.

Dorothy Robinson, 2005 Rutsch Award Winner at Pelham Art Center, is a NY-based painter who thinks of her paintings as landscapes that explore the hardwired connection that exists between humans and earth. "To paint a landscape is to explore a terrain where internal and external realities meet and merge, hovering between representation and abstraction. Using oil paints that I mix from powdered pigments-many of which are derived from rocks and earth-I use broad strokes and gestural language to build up a surface. The addition and subtraction of paint creates unexpected terrain that accommodates a memory, a train of thought, or a slip of the hand. Plans and intentions disappear, while other impulses assert themselves, echoes of larger, invisible forces constantly at work in the world."

Slate Forest on Red by Mike Gracie

Founded in 1898, Gracie is best known for its signature product - exquisite hand painted wallpapers. Gracie's hand painted scenic wallpapers, based on 18th century Chinese designs, Japanese screens, and French panoramas, are produced entirely by hand, and customized to the client's architectural, color and design specifications. The firm is now led by brother and sister team Mike and Jenn Gracie who continue their great-grandfather's legacy as the fourth-generation leaders of the company.
