When does the silent auction open?

The auction will be open for bidding starting on Thursday, May 13th at 9 a.m. Eastern Time.

Why do you need my credit card number before I bid? Is this safe?

By providing your credit card before bidding in the silent auction, you are assured a quick, easy and secure check-out process.

Yes, it's safe! Credit card processing on this Givesmart site is PCI Compliant, using a secure server. All credit card information is transmitted via Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology (the industry standard security technology that is designed to protect sensitive information) and then encrypted into Givesmart's payment gateway provider's database, accessible only to those authorized with special access rights to such systems; they are required to keep the information confidential.

The auction is open, but how do I place a bid?

Please refer to the "How it works" information sheet at for registering, bidding and donating by smartphone, tablet or desktop computer.

When does the bidding close?

The silent auction will begin closing at 7:00 p.m. Eastern time on Saturday, May 15.  Items will close in order of item number - lowest to highest. If a bid is placed on an item within the final minute before closing, three additional minutes will be added to the closing time for that item. Please note that the extension of the closing time for one item does not affect the closing time of any other items.

How do I know if I won an item?

Winning bidders will receive a text on their smartphone. This text will include a link directing them to confirm the charge to their credit card. 

Then what?

Winning bidders will be contacted via text with a calendar link to schedule a safe, socially distanced pick-up of their items at CHS in Newington, Waterford or Westport. Gift certificates that may be transmitted electronically will be sent to winners via email. Printed gift certificates will be mailed to purchasers. Home delivery of items may be available if you are unable to pick them up, for a $10.00 fee. Winners requesting shipment of their non-fragile item(s) must pay for shipping. No fragile items will be shipped.

Will I get a tax receipt?

Yes! All donors, sponsors, and auction and Paw Pack purchasers will receive a tax receipt letter from CHS sent via USPS after the event, acknowledging their generous support of pets in need.
