Dominus Estate is a wine producer based in Napa Valley, making one of the region's so-called cult Cabernets. The owner, Christian Moueix, has had ownership - at least in part - since 1982, and ran the estate concurrently with his family wine business in Bordeaux until 2008. Dominus Estate is concerned with sustainability, and the vineyard is dry-farmed both to conserve water and to control yields and thus the quality of the fruit. Moueix has also been a particular proponent of crop-thinning, having used it since the early 1970s at Petrus. This practice is said to improve the quality of the fruit as it improves the leaf to fruit ratio, aiding ripening.

This bottle of Jack Daniel's Sinatra Select bourbon pays tribute to Frank Sinatra. It comes from Carmel's Restaurant, where owner Bob Byers has a secret stash of high end, rare bourbon like this. He opens bottles on Thursday nights, so if you love bourbon and want an extra-special tipple, Carmel's on Thursdays is the place to be.

This bourbon is made with Jack Daniels' "Sinatra barrels" that have deep grooves specially carved into their staves to expose the whiskey to extra layers of toasted oak. This adds a rich amber color, bold character, and pleasant smokiness, punctuated by an incredibly smooth vanilla finish. The bottle is pretty cool, too.

Taken from the center-cut or middle sections of the famous Warehouse H, Blanton's Original Single Barrel Bourbon Whisky was once designated for ambassadors, dignitaries, and Colonel Blanton's family and friends.

The taste profile is sweet, with notes of citrus and oak. The creamy vanilla nose is teased with caramel and butterscotch, all underscored by familiar baking spices such as clove, nutmeg, or cinnamon. Blanton's Original set the standard for single barrel bourbons in 1984. Best served neat or on the rocks.
