"Freedom" Painting
$1800"Freedom" by Theodora Miller. 18 x 24 x 1.5 inches. Acrylic painting on cradled wood panel. Inspired by the lyrics of the Greek national anthem, written in 1823 by Dionysios Solomos.
Theodora Miller is a contemporary artist based in Richmond, Virginia. While creative expression has been an indispensable part of her life, she literally fell into abstract expressionism. A split-second fall on the stairs resulted in a traumatic brain injury. Artful living took on new meaning; it emerged as an essential part of healing. Today her artistic process continues to be influenced by emotions, surroundings, and life events, resulting in soulful creations full of textural depth and color.
Miller's studio practice is exploratory in nature, combining layers of acrylic paint and paint chips with other media like ink, gouache, pencil, pastels, and collage. She begins each piece with gestural brushstrokes and then follows her intuition to add or remove details, building up textural surfaces that add dimension to each composition. Miller's calligraphic designs are an authentic expression of her Greek identity, merging memory, emotion, and history into visual statements that are uniquely her own. Her creations reside in corporate collections and private homes around the globe.

"The Cretan" Painting
$1300This painting measures 16" x 20" on stretched canvas. The piece is done impasto with both brush and palette knife and "alla prima" style (wet on wet) in oil paint.
The painting is made by Dean Kousiounelos, a 17-year-old artist based in Chicago who finds expression through Greek-themed works and pushes artistic boundaries by incorporating astrophysical concepts in a drawing portfolio.
From the artist: "I always complete pieces such these while listening to the traditional music of the subject's region - whether it's Crete, Pontos, Epiros, or elsewhere. Through that music, I can connect myself to the culture of that region. The music conjures different emotions and from those emotions, different color schemes; the facial features are synonymous with the type of regional music. I also use many references for costumes - all vintage images."
