I joined the American Red Cross in July of 2020 and very quickly learned what it means to to be a Red Crosser, entering into one of the worst disaster seasons experienced in decades. Huricanes, tornadoes, flooding and wild fires hit in rapid succession. More than 10,000 volunteers from across the country deployed to help people who had lost everything, risking their own heath during a pandemic, to eleviate the suffering of others. Here at home, we continue to respond to an average of 3 home fires per day, mange 80% of our blood supply, support our military families and vetrans and teach our children and fellow citizens how to be prepared. Just last month volunteers from Onondaga County joined many others from around the country to set up shelters to house and feed the migrant children at the Southern border. During the pandemic we have helped deliver food to our neighbors and are now assisting the VA hospitals with their COVID 19 vaccination efforts.
May 21st is the 140th anniversary of the Red Cross and since we can't celebrate with an in person event we have had to get creative to raise the funds necessary to support our mission. May 21st is also my Mother's birthday which is very fitting since I learned from her the value of caring for others more than yourself. I am making the first donation on this page in memory of my Mother and ask you to please consider making a gift to support this organization that does such incredible work.
Thank you!
