MEET OUR HONOREE

Lynne Warren, Curator, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, 1979-2019

Art Encounter is proud to honor Lynne Warren and her long career at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, where she joined the staff in 1979 and began organizing exhibitions in 1981. Through her many monographic exhibitions that highlighted artists with a significant relationship to Chicago, she became an expert on the city's art history from 1945 to the present. Her 25 solo exhibitions at the MCA include Kenneth Josephson (1982), Donald Sultan (1987), Robert Heinecken: Photographist (1999), H. C. Westermann (2001), Dan Peterman: Plastic Economies (2004), Chris Ware (2005), and Jim Nutt: Coming Into Character (2011). She was also the project director of Art in Chicago, 1945-1995 (1996), which produced the first in-depth publication on post-war Chicago art. Her other publications include over 40 exhibition catalogues, as well as contributions to Masterpieces of 20th Century Art (Art Institute of Chicago, 1988), Encyclopedia of Chicago (Newberry Library and University of Chicago, 2004), Grove's Dictionaries Dictionary of Art (1995), The Essential New Art Examiner (Northern Illinois Press, 2011), and Support Networks (School of the Art Institute/Chicago Social Practice History Series, 2014), which reprinted her essay from Alternative Spaces, a groundbreaking 1984 exhibition. She is the editor of the three-volume reference book The Encyclopedia of 20th Century Photography (2005). Educated at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Chicago, Ms. Warren has taught courses at universities throughout Chicago and has lectured throughout the United States.

MEET OUR COMMUNITY PARTNER OF THE YEAR

Daniel de los Reyes, Principal, Darwin Elementary School, Chicago

Daniel de los Reyes is the Principal at Darwin Elementary, a Chicago Public School in Logan Square which has been a steadfast partner of Art Encounter's since 2017. Thanks to Mr. de los Reyes' vision and commitment to the arts, we were able to continue serving Darwin students during the pandemic with modified programs that kept students engaged while learning at home. He was also instrumental in helping us pilot new art initiatives for his students when they returned to in-person learning. Mr. de los Reyes is a consistent and dedicated supporter of Art Encounter, and we are pleased to recognize him as our 2022 Community Partner of the Year.
