Our friend J. Austin Bitner from the Engineer's Society of Baltimore created a special cocktail to pair with the Babe Ruth program on Wednesday the 24th. Have these ingredients on hand and get ready to mix up your own "Bambino" before the program along with J!
3 oz Rye Whiskey (recommended 100 Proof or more)
1.5 oz Sweet Vermouth
1 oz Ginger Lemon Shrub
6 drops Aromatic Bitters
Lemon Oil (in mister) or Lemon Peel
Glassware: Coupe or martini glass
Halfway fill shaker with ice. Pour into it rye, sweet vermouth, shrub, and bitters; then stir until well chilled. If you have lemon oil mister, coat inside of glass with one spray of lemon oil. If not, skip this step. Strain cocktail into the glass. Peel wide strip of lemon peel. If you have misted your glass, garnish; if not, express the lemon oils onto the cocktail then garnish. Serve and enjoy - Cheers!
Ginger Lemon Shrub Recipe
¼ Cup of Fresh Sliced Ginger Root (washed, skin on)
¼ Cup Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
¼ Cup Apple Cider vinegar
½ cup water
1 cup sugar
Combine all ingredients except ginger root in a medium pot. Bring to boil, stir to integrate, and reduce temperature to simmer. Add sliced ginger root, stirring into the solution to fully wet the slices of root. Continue to simmer for 10 minute. Turn off heat and let cool to room temperature. Strain mixture through a cheesecloth lined wire mesh colander. Place in a storage container (squeeze bottle, or jar) and refrigerate until ready to use.
