This classic two-volume American Heritage Picture History of the Civil War is richly illustrated with paintings, prints, photographs, and maps. The accompanying narrative by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Bruce Catton brings the conflict and the players to life.
This hardcover first edition comes in a slipcase, which is worn but still intact. The set also includes a softcover chronology with notes on the leading participants. The cover photograph shows the statue of Union General Gouverneur Warren at Gettysburg. Warren's call for reinforcements on July 2 brought Joshua Chamberlain and the 20th Maine to Little Round Top, where they shaped the course of American history.
