Beaded Amulet Bag
Amulet bags are worn at heart level. This beautiful beaded example was handcrafted by local artisan Michelle Hartley Wainer, who donated it to the kitties of Paw in the Door.
Beaded amulet bags are generally created in peyote stitch, a complex off-loom bead weaving technique. Depending on the design and materials used, they can take months to complete.
Native peoples traditionally used amulet bags to carry herbs or ward off evil spirits. They have also held precious mementos of loved ones or prayers. Today most people wear amulet bags as jewelry, although some put crystals in them.
Bag: 5" high x 2.5" wide. Beaded chain: 28" long end to end.
