Connecticut painter and educator, Marija Pavlovich McCarthy was born and raised in Yugoslavia. She is an interpretive realist who works in oil and watercolor. Her love of landscape painting led her to spend several entire summers working in regions of great painterly character, notably the Adriatic Coast, the Costa Brava, the Greek Islands, Provence, and the Eastern Shore of Maryland. She also spent three prolific and inspired years in Pakistan and three in Tunisia.
Marija McCarthy's works are in the National Museum in Belgrade, the Presidential collections of Pakistan, Palestine, and Tunisia and in corporate, congressional, and private collections in America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. She has taught painting in all mediums since 1962, including at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC, the Maryland School of Art and Design, the Art League in Alexandria, Virginia, and currently, the Washington Art Association in Washington, Connecticut.
