Framed digital facsimile print: "A Draught of John Bartram's House and Garden as it appears from the River" - ink drawing by William Bartram.

Described as "a foundation document of American garden history" this drawing was created by the nineteen-year-old William Bartram in mid- to late 1758 and sent to Peter Collinson in London in early 1759. It is the only plan of John Bartram's garden recorded during his lifetime. William captured his father's garden in a state of expansion, with a new flower garden and major alterations to the house just underway. The figure standing among the woody plant collection in the lower garden is probably John himself.

Part of a large folio volume of drawings once owned by Peter Collinson, John Bartram's friend and chief correspondent in London. The volume contains over 30 original illustrations by William Bartram. This Collinson volume was long part of the library collection of the Earl of Derby at Knowsley Hall, near Liverpool. In 2020, three volumes of the Collinson Knowsley Collection were purchased by art dealer W. Graham Arader III and brought to the US.

This framed and matted digital facsimile of William Bartram's 1758 "Draught" is an exact reproduction of the original illustration in ink on paper, sent to Peter Collinson. The facsimile print measures 16.5 inches x 10.25 inches with museum quality framing - off-white mat and black frame. Framed size is 22.5 inches x 17.5 inches and mounted for hanging.
