What a fascinating set to add to your Native American collection! Taka and Mihua are a pair of Zuni Shalako Kachinas which are dancers for the winter solstice ceremony following harvest. Each doll is of carved wood, normally cottonwood root, in the image of Hopi style art made by a Navajo artist. They are in very good shape with all the paint and feathers intact.

The dolls are gifts given in hope of future abundance and health, as well as tools for education. When the Kachinas return to the spirit world at the end of the season, they return with prayers of the Hopi that we might all continue on this earth for another round of the circle of life.

Each doll sits on a small round wood base and they measure approximately 15 inches tall. Made of lightweight wood, the dolls are similar in nature but vastly different at the same time. Taka is more brightly painted while the dress is very muted brown tones. Mihua's top has little adornment while his feathers are more variegated.

Masks are the most important fixture of the doll and paints are carefully applied after the doll is completed. Various items are used around the neck and added when all else has been added.

Taka and Mihua are looking for a new place to call home, hoping to give you that future abundance and health.
