"A New Kind of Gull in the New York Harbor", the title for this image comes from the cover of Harper's Weekly on October 9, 1909. The magazine had a photograph of Wilber Wright flying around the Statue of Liberty on the cover.
The photographer, Dan Cleary was taking a ferry back to New Jersey from Ellis Island and captured an image of the same view as the magazine photo. Cleary's photo, with the seagull flying through the frame and the glow of the setting sun, was the ideal backdrop for the Wright Brothers plane which has been superimposed on the his picture. The 22 1/2 by 14 1/2 inch photo with the words "Once his great aero plane, so near the horizon that it seemed one with the ocean gulls among which it flew" is signed by the photographer and has been matted in white, framed in black and measure 31 inches by 25 inches.
An added bonus is the book: "Wright Brothers: Then and Now". Mr. Cleary seamlessly blends historical images of the Wright Brothers with current images he has taken at the same locations. The result is a compelling visual tribute to the pioneers in flight. The book is signed by the photographer. Item must be picked up at CET or ThinkTV as shipping is not available.
