IU Sample Gates Painting
$350Justin Patten creates one-of-a-kind works on canvas. This painting of Indiana University's iconic Sample Gates shows off his artistic style!
Artist Justin Patten
Being a sports fan himself, Justin Patten seeks to recreate the passion of sports in his art. He produces one-of-a-kind works on canvas, utilizing his unique style to fashion images that bring life and energy to a space. This custom work of IU's Sample Gates shows his artistic ability.
In describing his art Justin has said, "Storm Striker has been a way to give sports fans and graduates a way to represent their loyalty and passion while not sacrificing great taste. My work seeks to be as energetic as the last moments of the game. My style really comes out of my instincts on how something should look. When I paint, I try to push my boundaries and stop only when I have reached the edge of my abstraction."
More of his art can be found at stormstriker.com, or on Etsy.com under the name stormstriker.
Indiana University's Sample Gates serve as an entrance into the oldest part of the current Bloomington campus. They were constructed in 1987 but the idea to have a gateway on Kirkwood Avenue originated in 1883 once the university moved to its current location. Over four decades, ten designs for the gates were submitted but none were approved until 1968. Unfortunately funding for the project was withdrawn in the early 70s and the plan for a gateway fell apart.
Then in the 1980s alumnus Edson Sample requested to fund the project in honor of his parents. The gateway project began taking shape, and the construction coincided with a previous plan to add landscaping, brick paths, and benches to the area. Today the Sample Gates have become one of the most iconic places on campus with graduates flocking there to take photos in their caps and gowns and alumni visiting to reminisce.
Painting is 20" wide x 16" tall. Canvas painting comes ready to hang.
