The story behind the Cross is :

From the song "Were you there when they crucified my Lord?" The answer is yes, because our sins nailed Jesus to the Cross. The hands represent our sins which are covered by the bloody wounds of Christ. The second purpose for the hands, is that on Good Friday we come to reverence the Cross by putting our hands on the Cross to say "Thank you Jesus for dying for my sins so that I could have eternal life with You!"
