Rare Megalodon Teeth Set

Yes, you read that correctly! These teeth came from a megalodon shark 2-10 millions years ago, that was possibly more than 55 feet long! This set of very rare megalodon teeth includes a bonus, necklace sized shark tooth.

Two unusual and pretty 5 1/2 inch long Megalodon shark teeth fossils that are somewhere between 2-10 million years old. I found them on two different dives in the sand at a depth of more than 110 feet while I was scuba diving in the ocean 40 miles offshore near Wilmington, North Carolina last summer. One was covered by a thin layer of sand and I recognized the big triangular shape as I swam over it. The other was on top of the sand which is why it is covered in coral and barnacles.

Both are 100% natural with no restoration. The shark they came from was possibly 50 feet long.

They come with both a plastic stand and a riker display case. And a bonus third tooth: a great white shark tooth fossil that could be made into a necklace.

Everest is one of the most revered and most beautiful mountains in the world. And it could be hanging on your wall! This gorgeous photo will be printed to the winner's size specifications, up to 36 inches high.

The full story of the photo as told by Nat Geo photographer Bill Thompson:

In 1983, an extraordinary event took place - the adventure of many lifetimes. I was assigned by the National Geographic to film the inimitable Brad Washburn as he fulfilled his life-long dream of filming Mt. Everest from the air.

After years of negotiations, Brad and the National Geographic had successfully navigated the myriad of geopolitical intrigues and was awarded by India, China, and Nepal the opportunity to fly completely around Mt. Everest. Brad's dream was close at hand: creating photographs of the tallest mountain on earth, which had never been accomplished at that point in history. The commitment was not only to create the first true accurate photogrammetry map of Everest, but to
also shoot stills of the mountain from every conceivable angle. In 1982, all maps of Everest were created by hand using sightings, triangulation, and a lot of imagination.

All was well as preparation for our flights proceeded, but then tragedy found itself in our midst.

Just before our especially modified Learjet was to arrive from Sweden, Brad's wife, Barbara, became terribly ill. The Washburns had no choice but to evacuate to Boston in order to save her life. This turn of events, of course, was a giant monkey wrench in the years of complicated planning. The editor of the National Geographic, Bill Garrett, was beside himself. With ten years of sensitive negotiations and millions of dollars invested in equipment and crew to place Everest
aerial images in the upcoming 100 year anniversary issue, "Exploring the Earth", stress was high for everyone involved with the project.

Garrett called me in Kathmandu to say Barbara was struggling, and Brad would be staying with her in Boston. I would now be the guy to "get the damned pictures". Beginning with flights in a tiny Pilatus Porter flown to altitudes of 28,000 feet, with the door open, I began filming.

Over the ensuing months, with incredibly clear Himalayan weather, we captured the data for creating a complete and accurate map of Everest. With many flights in the Pilatus, and in the Learjet piloted by a crew from Sweden, I exposed over a thousand rolls of Kodachrome film-36,000 individual images. All of these excursions were dangerous but the very nature of this danger created marvelous adventures, etched in my memory.

In summary, we created a sea of images which truly captured a sense of the magnitude, the beauty and the power of this Mountain called EVEREST. Brad's map was completed in time for the anniversary issue, as were the still images. We fulfilled our commitment.

The images which I am donating to the AAC are limited edition prints from this project, printed on handmade watercolor paper with archival inks. The edition of each of the images is limited to 50 prints and with three artists proofs.

In 1983, an extraordinary event took place - the adventure of many lifetimes. I was assigned by the National Geographic to film the inimitable Brad Washburn as he fulfilled his life-long dream of filming Mt. Everest from the air.

After years of negotiations, Brad and the National Geographic had successfully navigated the myriad of geopolitical intrigues and was awarded by India, China, and Nepal the opportunity to fly completely around Mt. Everest. Brad's dream was close at hand: creating photographs of the tallest mountain on earth, which had never been accomplished at that point in history. The commitment was not only to create the first true accurate photogrammetry map of Everest, but to
also shoot stills of the mountain from every conceivable angle. In 1982, all maps of Everest were created by hand using sightings and triangulation and a lot of imagination.

All was well as preparation for our flights proceeded, but then tragedy found itself in our midst. Just before our especially modified Learjet was to arrive from Sweden, Brad's wife, Barbara, became terribly ill. The Washburns had no choice but to evacuate to Boston in order to save her life. This turn of events, of course, was a giant monkey wrench in the years of complicated planning. The editor of the National Geographic, Bill Garrett, was beside himself. With ten years of sensitive negotiations and millions of dollars invested in equipment and crew to place Everest aerial images in the upcoming 100 year anniversary issue, "Exploring the Earth", stress was high
for everyone involved with the project.

Garrett called me in Kathmandu to say Barbara was struggling, and Brad would be staying with her in Boston. I would now be the guy to "get the damned pictures". Beginning with flights in a tiny Pilatus Porter flown to altitudes of 28,000 feet, with the door open, I began filming.

Over the ensuing months, with incredibly clear Himalayan weather, we captured the data for creating a complete and accurate map of Everest. With many flights in the Pilatus, and in the Learjet piloted by a crew from Sweden, I exposed over a thousand rolls of Kodachrome film-36,000 individual images. All of these excursions were dangerous but the very nature of this danger created marvelous adventures, etched in my memory.

In summary, we created a sea of images which truly captured a sense of the magnitude, the beauty and the power of this Mountain called EVEREST. Brad's map was completed in time for the anniversary issue, as were the still images. We fulfilled our commitment.

The images which I am donating to the AAC are limited edition prints from this project, printed on handmade watercolor paper with archival inks. The edition of each of the images is limited to 50 prints and with three artists proofs.

Every collector and lover of climbing history needs this package in their life!

For decades the AAC has been publishing climbing's foremost authority on climbing, chronicling major assents and expeditions. In all the years, the 1979 edition is one of the most remarkable! It features the harrowing story of the first Americans to stand atop K2: the 1978 American K2 Expedition. Signed by expedition leaderJim Whittaker, and team members Louis Reichardt, Jim Wickwire, Rick Ridgeway, Dianne Roberts, Bill Sumner, Terry Bech, and Skip Edmonds.

Plus, 1970's Whillans Harness from Jed Williamsonn is piece of history. It is a testament to how far climbing gear tech has progressed!

Rope, leather and webbing from parachute harnesses were just some of the materials used for early climbing harnesses until nylon tape was invented, sometime in the 1960's, we think. The Americans wrapped tape around their bodies in various configurations and called it a 'Swami belt.

In 1970, not long after his successful climb of the Troll Wall in Norway, Tony Howard set up his mountaineering equipment company, Troll. Pretty soon after they teamed up with legendary climber, Don Whillans and between them they produced one of the first sit harnesses made/sewn with tape - Whillans used one on the South face of Annapurna and climbers all over the world used them for decades to come.

The central crutch strap on the Whillan's was said to have rendered several male climbers impotent and they were not the most comfortable for abseiling, though they did probably prevent lots of male climbers from falling off as the resultant damage to the nether regions was unthinkable!
The Troll Whillan's Harness was however a major step forward in climbing equipment development and just about every climbing harness on the market some forty or fifty years later is based on this original design.

This particular harness saw its fair share of adventure. Here is its story:

Hello, I'm Jed Williamson's Whillans Sit Harness made in England by Troll. I've been kept in the dark for about 30 years, so I'm probably as strong as ever! But never mind that! I've had a great time protecting Jed over many years. He wore me on a couple of big climbs (like Half Dome in 1979) and for a lot of years guiding for the Glenn Exum School of American Mountaineering. I was honored that his daughter, Heather, wore me on her ascent of the Grand Teton in 1988 with Jed. There was a moment of panic on that climb. Heather was out of sight from Jed, ready to make the big move up from Wall Street. "Climb, Heather." "Climbing..." Then, "Falling, Dad!" But not far! The rest of the climb went well! Kenneth Kamler, M.D., is a microsurgeon trained at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center who practices surgery of the hand in New York, but practices extreme medicine in some of the most remote regions on Earth. He has treated bear bite in the Arctic and frostbite in the Antarctic. He has set fractures in the Andes and cared for out-of-breath scuba divers in the Galapagos. He has performed surgery in the mud of the Amazon rainforest and in an undersea analogue space capsule. He has been on six expeditions to Mount Everest as expedition doctor.
