The winner of this auction item will enjoy dawning this lovely Egyptian Nefer Necklace Classic-Fit Top (size medium) from The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Broad collars were the most frequently worn pieces of jewelry among the royalty and elite in ancient Egypt. Several large, beautifully crafted broad collars in the Museum's collection were certainly gifts from the great king Thutmose III to his wives. One of these gold collars (Dynasty 18, ca. 1404-1450 B.C.) is made of palmettes and nefer hieroglyphs.
The "nefer" signifies the word meaning "good" or "beautiful," so perhaps this necklace was meant to bring good wishes to the wearer. This splendid broad collar is the source for the design of this dramatic top.
The winner of this auction item will look great in this embellished Indian Pendant Necklace Classic Fit Tee (size medium) from The Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The tradition of jewelry making on the Indian subcontinent is characterized by a vast and complex heritage spanning at least five thousand years. Created and worn as symbolic expressions of religious beliefs and as indicators of social and economic status, Indian jewelry embodies a rich cultural significance beyond the value of its precious materials. Our tee design is based on a sumptuous gold necklace (Punjab or Rajasthan, 18th-19th century) in the Museum's collection, lavishly decorated with stones and pearls. This tee is richly embellished with gold-foil printing, faux gems, and faux seed pearls around the neckline.
