The Richard Cardinal Cushing Award:
The Raymond Family

The Richard Cardinal Cushing Award is given annually to an individual, business or organization. The award recipient provides consistent support for and/or advocacy on behalf of individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families. Cardinal Cushing Centers established this award in the name of our founder, Richard Cardinal Cushing. Richard Cardinal Cushing award recipients demonstrate humility, compassion, and dedication to enhancing the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

We honor The Raymond Family for their outstanding support of our mission and work at Cardinal Cushing Centers as well as their advocacy on behalf of people with intellectual disabilities. Jean and Fred Raymond attend, support, and champion every campaign and event we have at Cushing. Their daughter Katie graduated from Cushing in 2019 and has since matriculated to our programs for adults.  A strong advocate for herself and others with disabilities, Katie often inspires her older sister, Chrissy, who ran the Boston Marathon for Cushing in 2019. Chrissy worked for Congressman Seth Moulton for four years where she championed policy to increase access to healthcare and employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. She now continues to pursue her passion for advocating on behalf of people with disabilities by attending the Harvard Kennedy School of Government where she is working towards earning her Masters in Public Policy.

Franciscan Leadership Award:
Dolly F. Di Pesa, CPA

The Franciscan Leadership Award is given annually to an individual, business or organization. The award recipient embodies the values of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, who were integral in the founding of the Cardinal Cushing Centers back in 1947. At present, the Cushing Centers continues to operate with their guidance and blessings. Franciscan Leadership Award recipients actively build a stronger community in which they live or work by providing opportunities for those who are less fortunate. They demonstrate generosity, leadership by positive example, and mutuality towards all others.

We honor long standing supporter, Dolly Di Pesa, Managing Partner of Di Pesa & Company, CPA's of Quincy, for her tireless efforts to build a stronger South Shore community, consistently providing opportunities for those who are less fortunate. Dolly began her career as a special needs educator at Cardinal Cushing Centers, where her brother David was a former student. Dolly's parents, William and Mary Jane, were also supporters of Cushing, and were honored at Cushing's 42nd anniversary celebration in 1989.

In both her professional and civic endeavors, Dolly has taken a special interest in family-owned and women-owned small business, helping them manage their finances and their growth. Dolly serves on many Boards for both non-profit and for-profit entities. Under her stewardship, Di Pesa & Company is a family-friendly work place with many employees offered flexible schedules to accommodate the demands of family life. Bill Brett's recently released book, Boston Game Changers, features Dolly.
