Jennifer is a nurse at Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Ohio. In the course of her duties, she contracted COVID-19 and was eventually hospitalized for treatment, requiring up to 5 liters of oxygen at one point before the illness relented. After recuperating, Jennifer felt a strong calling to return to her nursing role which includes shifts on the All-COVID floor. Jennifer states that she now better understands the needs and challenges of her patients fighting COVID. She utilizes her own experience in helping them to find accurate words to convey their symptoms, their concerns and to empathize with their fears. Jennifer also represents hope to these patients as one who beat the virus despite being in their same circumstances.
Jennifer says, "Healthcare isn't the same. This pandemic has flipped a nurse's role on it's head. We have had to become the patient's family, their counselors, and to bring them hope and comfort since they are isolated from their families." She is especially appreciative of the team effort made by the amazing people with whom she works. And for her part, she tries to do what she can in support of them by picking up extra shifts because of the impact the pandemic has had on staffing. Jennifer plans to just keep taking it one day at a time as she answers this call by God to be there for her patients and co-workers. She truly is one of our Frontline Healthcare Heroes in action! Your donation on this page in her honor is one way you can demonstrate to Jennifer that her efforts have not gone unnoticed or unappreciated.
