Philharmonic Society of Orange County
Founded in 1954, the Philharmonic Society of Orange County's mission is foster an appreciation for music by presenting national and international performances of the highest quality while also providing dynamic and innovative music education programs for individuals of all ages. Each year, the Philharmonic Society presents a stellar lineup of the world's greatest symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, soloists and international artists, and reaches more than 100,000 students through its education programs.
The Philharmonic Society's "Ode to Joy" tree was inspired by the idea that music sparks joy and has the ability to transcend all boundaries and bring people together. 2020 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Beethoven, whose Ninth Symphony is considered one of the greatest musical works of all time. Known throughout the world, hummed by young and old, the famed "Ode to Joy" melody is a message of hope and unity.
With our tree, we celebrate our legacy of bringing the greater Southern California community together in shared enjoyment of incredible live performances by the world's great symphony orchestras and international artists. Music resonates within all of us and we hope to bring joy to all this holiday season.
