Artist: Rachel Shelton

Description of Buffalo: "Hillside" combines ink wash landscape and acrylic paint. The top, inked portion is coated with a glossy acrylic medium while the bottom, painted black, is coated with a matte medium. The piece is based on my previous works about population and the human relationship to the land. The buffalo is made of terra cotta are approximately 18" long and 12" high.

Artist Bio: Shelton is an interdisciplinary fine artist from Buffalo, N.Y. She is a cofounder of Mirabo Press. Shelton received her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2011 with a concentration in printmaking. Her work, centered around this also includes bookmaking, drawing, and sculpture. Shelton received her MFA from UB in 2017. At both the undergraduate and graduate level, she has studied the methods and theories used in in the field of Anthropology and Archaeology to gain an overhead perspective of the evolution and organizational structure of human populations.
