Artist: Cherie St. Pierre, PhD

Description of Buffalo: Pierre's buffalo is dedicated to supporting scientists who are studying about the rapid loss of our insects, flora, and animals due to climate change, habitat loss and pesticides. Entomologists confirmed that from 1989 to 2016, flying insect bio mast had declined by 76 percent. North American birds have been in decline by almost a third since 1970. If these species were to vanish, the environment would collapse into chaos. Thus my Buffalo is sprinkled with painted flowers, insects, a frog, rabbit, turtle, dragonfly, butterflies and birds. The mask is also removable. The buffalo is approximately 18" long and 12" high and made of terra cotta.

Artist Bio: Pierre taught art in Kenmore-Tonawanda schools for 33 years. After retiring taught at Medaille College for 1 year and then supervised student teachers at Buffalo State College for 3 years. In my free time my passion is photography. I have traveled to 6 continents, concentrating on wildlife photography, architecture, and indigenous cultures. Pierre has a BS and MS in Art Education from Buffalo State College, A MS in Italian at Middlebury College and a PhD in Communication and Culture in English from New York University.
