Artist: Jordan Parah
Title: The Linear Violin
Date: 2020
Media: aluminum
Dimensions: 21" x 9"
"My name is Jordan Parah and I graduated from East Carolina University in 2014 with a BFA in Sculpture and minor in Art History. Currently I have a studio in Greenville, NC where I run my business Parahdise Sculpture, LLC. My works can be found in public and private collections throughout the southeast including North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee.
"The main focus of my work is equality in our society; equal rights portrayed through large-scale sculpture. I challenge the intrinsic properties of metals and form them into unique, harmonious compositions that exemplify coexistence; creating balance and harmony out of diversity. In my research I seek to connect contrasting metal forms, shapes and colors to create a nexus between the sculpture and the fundamental principle, that all people are different yet all are equal."
Title: Strong Winds of Promise
Dimensions: 22" x 12"
Artist: Michael Tracy
Title: Green Bottle with Stopper
Media: blown and lampworked glass
Dimensions: 28" x 8"
"My mind seems to be split between two distinct personalities. One side is the part that should have been a scientist or a computer programmer - it is analytical, logical, and succinct. The other part of me desires creativity and expression. It is enamored by ideas, emotions, and interpretation - being more like a poet rather than a scientist. My work is a way for me to resolve the differences between the two parts. Creating each piece is more like an analysis of the subject, trying to understand its nature and properties and discovering all of the minute details. With this analysis comes the freedom to create something that is capable of being expressive and emotive. The two sides compete and complement each other. Some pieces end up as representational depictions whereas others are abstracted, becoming deconstructions of the subject where I can study its components and reinterpret the structures."
