Irene Bailey started her formal training at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and received her Master's Degree in Fine Arts at East Carolina University. She furthered her studies with notable artists Nelson Shanks, Raymond Everett Kinstler, Daniel Green, and more. She is an active member of The Portrait Society of America, Oil Painters of America and Portrait Society of Atlanta.

Jonathan Bowling grew up on a small farm in Kentucky, where the Appalachian Mountains melt into the rolling hills of the Bluegrass. His first sculptural efforts were the simple games of childhood--fieldstone castles, a bridle of hay twine, a driftwood armada. As a teenager in the late eighties, Bowling lived in Belgium, where he had access to the museums of Western Europe. On his return to the states he attended the University of Kentucky where he received his BFA in sculpture and a BA in art history. In 1996 he moved to Greenville, North Carolina, to pursue an MFA in sculpture at East Carolina University in 1999. He has been working out of his Greenville studio ever since. Bowling has showed extensively in the Eastern United States, which has resulted in a number of long term lease agreements and sales to municipalities and private collectors.

Sophie Burkheimer is a native North Carolinian, living and painting in Greenville, NC. With an undergraduate degree in art from East Carolina University and graduate degree in design from NC State University, the largest part of Sophie's employed life was spent as a scientific illustrator and graphic designer at a research firm in Research Triangle Park. She is now retired and spends more time creating her own art. Nature is the usual subject source for her art. There is always something out there to inspire, if it is a realistic rendering or an abstraction.

Steve Cavallo studied at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and later became an instructor there from 2015-2019 before retiring and moving to North Carolina. He works in watercolors on Arches Paper and paints large multi-panel works that have been exhibited at the Fullerton Museum in California, Manzanar Nation Historic Site, John Jay College for Criminal Justice, George Mason University, and Gallery D'Arte in Manhattan's Chelsea District. He now lives with his wife Kyung in Jacksonville, North Carolina, where he continues to paint in his new surroundings.

"For 35 years I've been a cardiac surgeon with a passion for photography. My love of photography spans more than 60 years when as a child my father, a country general practitioner, and I built a home darkroom - and the rest is history. During my college years, photojournalism for newspapers in Virginia served as my creative outlet. I worked briefly for the DuPont Company in Delaware, where I had the opportunity to work with some fantastic and competitive photographers. They taught me to make salon exhibition prints in both color and black/white. As I went on to attend medical school at the University of Virginia and in the years after, when I was in residency at Duke University, my opportunities to enjoy photography became limited. The renaissance occurred when my wife, Tammy, encouraged me to go on a photo trek to Tibet in 1999. My love of this amazing art reemerged. From that time forward, when I traveled the world speaking on robotic heart valve surgery, I took "photo day" side trips. I owe much credit to George deWolfe, an internationally known fine art photographer, for teaching me to print my work digitally. I hated to leave the "darkroom photography" but found more flexibility and amazing quality in digital printing."

"I received my Bachelors of Arts degree in Art Therapy from Converse College, where I found my love for painting. Growing up, my aunt who was an artist, always encouraged me to create and take art classes, which I never had much interest in. In high school, my art teacher told me that my art was "too much and needed to be more like the other students" - that is what inspired me to further my art knowledge and skills. I have worked with acrylic, oil paints, watercolor, pottery and drawing. I mostly work with watercolor and acrylics today. I create art as an outlet to think, relieve stress and bring myself and others happiness. The pieces in this auction were created to explore new ways of creating and to get out of my comfort zone."

BJ is a mixed media artist specializing in hand-cut paper paintings with a street art vibe. He began cutting paper for stencils 30 years ago as a means to get paint on the material. One day he took a picture of a white paper stencil laying on a dark green mat and discovered the beauty of paper cutting. BJ focuses on finding the character in his subjects by turning the things we try to hide like fine lines and wrinkles into objects of beauty. His goals are to inspire those who see his work to look at faces and objects in a positive light and help viewers find beauty in something as simple as a piece of paper.

Felix Fernandez started in culinary arts as a manager/chef at Hotel MacGee in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania (3-star rated). He advanced to chef and catered to Governor Scranton's home and capital at Harrisburg, and his restaurant had magazine stories written about it. He went to Johnson and Wales Culinary College and graduated cum laude. Fernandez went to the 5-star Harrah Casino and Hotel in Lake Tahoe, Nevada before going to Gilbert/Robertson Corporation. He opened numerous restaurants across the country and one of those restaurants, Hogates, seated 1250 people, next to Durham, North Carolina at the Hilton. It sold and he went to Oklahoma City as a food and beverage director, then to Duke University and East Carolina University as executive chef before retiring.

He began painting first with Bob Ross classes and watercolor with Judy Dye. Fernandez took numerous individual classes in oil, acrylic, pastels, encaustic, and mixed media with Gail Ritzer at the Greenville Museum of Art Center for Art Education.

"With my experience in the speech and hearing sciences and art, I strive to show that visual communication is an important component in science. To do this, I work with elements of anatomy. Even though these are things that are often seen and depicted in both art and science, I want to suggest another way of looking at it.

It is this anatomy, though overlooked and ignored by most, which works to power our most essential functions such as speaking and hearing. I want the audience to experience these intricate yet powerful elements that make up our anatomy. Elaine Hinchman is a native of North Carolina and a resident of Greenville NC. She is a self-taught artist that started painting at a young age and creates daily. Elaine is not afraid to try something new and is constantly exploring new mediums for fun. She has multiple areas around her home set up for all her art projects and can spend hours lost in a creation.

Her chosen mediums are watercolor and acrylic. Elaine expresses detail in her watercolor and creates commissions of homes, special places, memories and dog portraits for others in a realistic style. Many of her art pieces are of the beach because she is inspired by the waves, beach animals, sunrises and sunsets. The beach has always been her favorite place to visit for some relaxation and you can frequently find her planning a getaway to the beautiful beaches of North Carolina for her art inspiration.

She also enjoys the freedom of abstract painting because she is able to use her imagination to let the colors flow and blend together. Textured paintings are her favorite because they add interest and depth to the painting.

"I have been an exhibiting artist for over 50 years. My artwork has been shown in various venues throughout the USA as well as in Vienna Austria, Mallorca Spain, and London England. It seems that I have always been a painter. When I was a little girl I was fortunate to take private art lessons and then classes at the Art Institute in Chicago. An Arts degree from Florida State University followed by studies in painting at UNC-Greensboro, as well as a MA degree in Art Therapy from Lindenwood College in St. Louis rounded out my formal education.

"I have been inspired by the pure colors, distortions and boldness of the Fauves, as well as the impulsive and gestural interpretations of the Abstract Expressionists. I like my work to look spontaneous but organized; gestural but not chaotic.

"Until I retired in 2010, I had a private practice as an Art Therapist, but always continued to paint. I paint because I cannot not paint. The creative process adds to the richness of my life. I think how lucky I am to be an artist.

"Those viewing my artwork may be interested in knowing that I apply the paint directly on the canvas with my hands as I don't like having anything between me and the canvas."

Sue Luddeke has always made art; she drew and modeled in clay as a young child, continued drawing throughout her adolescence, and started to paint in oils in high school her my own. Sue's taste is historically and visually didactic and this is evident in her work as well as reflecting her interest in the history of art, which she channels to art appreciation students.

Sue studied painting and drawing at ECU as an undergraduate and MFA student. She paints the figure, landscape and still life in oils and explores other media as well. She taught a variety of classes at the college level including painting, drawing, design, gender and art, multidisciplinary performance art, and art appreciation.

Art has always been a part of M.T. McClanahan's life his earliest memories are as a young boy working diligently at his drawing table. His artistic life, then to now, has been a journey to what he ultimately found in painting-freedom of expression, a search for meaning, and a passion for creating.

Marcus works primarily in acrylics on stretched canvas and, with smaller work and portraits, oil on panels or canvas. He would best be described as an easel painter but often works from life to continuously train his eye to see and translate the unlimited variety in nature.

Dee Morris, a Greenville, North Carolina resident, studied painting at East Carolina University, working with teachers Marilyn Gordley, Clarence Morgan, and with visiting artist Sam Scott of Santa Fe New Mexico. She maintained a studio in the arts district on Dickenson Avenue for several years, and currently maintains a Greenville studio. In the nineties, she collaborated with Henry Stindt, another local artist, and they exhibited their work under the name Henry Delia. The Marita Gilliam Gallery in Raleigh, NC in the nineties also represented her work. She continues to exhibit her paintings and three-dimensional works in Eastern North Carolina.

Joy grew up in Raleigh, NC. She attended ECU School of Art in Greenville, NC, as a painting major with a drawing minor. Joy's earlier paintings were often monochromatic and very detailed. Her work has now evolved to include much less detail with added impressionistic and/or expressionistic qualities using bold, bright colors; she prefers acrylic paint and mixed media. She is most drawn to the Impressionist painters, particularly Monet. She believes that the beauty of nature cannot be exceeded, so she rarely looks for inspiration elsewhere.

Joy married in 2013 and moved to the coast of NC. The beautiful coast as well as Caribbean and other travels offer endless inspiration for her paintings. Her works have been shown in various galleries in NC, as well as in online national/international juried exhibitions. She is an award-winning artist whose art has been purchased for private collections in various states across the US, as well as internationally. She is currently represented by Water + Color Gallery (Wilmington, NC) NauticalArtGallery.com, and other online galleries.

Walter J. Pories is a native of Germany who, on repeating the third grade for the third time was prophetically told that he certainly had no talent for art. In spite of that dire assessment, he pursued a major in art at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, courses at the Cleveland Museum of Art and, especially, in the workshops of Tony Couch, one of America's finest watercolor artists. His career in art includes making diagrams for the Yellow Pages, preparing medical illustrations at the University of Rochester and ECU as well as doodling at meetings and painting two kids' bedrooms. He has had two one-man shows: one at the Greenville Museum of Art and another in a remote corner of Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC. Still unable to get a cartoon into the New Yorker, he continues to settle for publications of cartoons in magazines few people read. In addition to his career in art, he still dabbles in surgical and nutritional research. He and his wife, Dr. Mary Ann Rose, have six children and live on a farm with cows, goats, poultry, llamas, deer, foxes, turkeys and even two bears.

She has been teaching surface design techniques, mixed media methods, painting, and ceramics to students of all ages for many years at workshops, as Outreach Coordinator for the Greenville Museum of Art and as an instructor at the Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge.

BJ is a mixed media artist specializing in hand-cut paper paintings with a street art vibe. He began cutting paper for stencils 30 years ago as a means to get paint on the material. One day he took a picture of a white paper stencil laying on a dark green mat and discovered the beauty of paper cutting. BJ focuses on finding the character in his subjects by turning the things we try to hide like fine lines and wrinkles into objects of beauty. His goals are to inspire those who see his work to look at faces and objects in a positive light and help viewers find beauty in something as simple as a piece of paper.

Liz Steiner received her MFA in Metal Design at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. and a BFA in Jewelry/Metals/Enameling from Kent State University in 2006, were she also earned a minor in Geology. She currently teaches for Pitt Community College and the Pitt County Arts Council at Emerge, while maintaining her studio practice as a member of the ArtLab: Innovation Station. "[This painting was] done in a traditional style of painting. My current genre of painting, is actually Multiview painting. The visual effect in this genre of painting, is perceived as movement. Revealing and concealing at the spectator's pace. I paint directly onto the painting surface, which are aluminum angles, at 45 degrees! I received my MFA in painting from the New York Academy of Art (cum laude). My work has been exhibited in venues such as the Gaston County Museum, Dallas, NC, The Cape Cod Museum of Art, Cape Cod, MA., The Katonah Museum of Art, Katonah, NY, the Reading Public Museum, Reading, PA, the Queens Museum of Art, NYC, the Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, NC, A Smithsonian Institution Affiliate and Sotheby's Auction House, NYC. I won a 2018 Mecklenburg Regional Artist Grant. In October of 2021 I will be having a one-person exhibition at the Ross Gallery in Charlotte, NC. "My mind seems to be split between two distinct personalities. One side is the part that should have been a scientist or a computer programmer - it is analytical, logical, and succinct. The other part of me desires creativity and expression. It is enamored by ideas, emotions, and interpretation - being more like a poet rather than a scientist. My work is a way for me to resolve the differences between the two parts. Creating each piece is more like an analysis of the subject, trying to understand its nature and properties and discovering all of the minute details. With this analysis comes the freedom to create something that is capable of being expressive and emotive. The two sides compete and complement each other. Some pieces end up as representational depictions whereas others are abstracted, becoming deconstructions of the subject where I can study its components and reinterpret the structures."
