The 27-hole golf course was designed by A. W. Tillinghast in 1929, and the clubhouse was designed by Clifford Wendehack. The greens are seeded with poa annua and bentgrass, and its fairways and tees are seeded with poa annua, bentgrass, and ryegrass. It was certified as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary in 1996. Since 2000, RCC has worked with architect Gil Hanse to restore the course back to its Tillinghast roots.Among the improvements have been the construction of 48 new or rebuilt tees, a new irrigation system, a new Greens and Grounds complex, an expansion of the pond on hole #1 on the Center nine, extensive drainage and the rebuilding of all the bunkers back to their original Tillinghast design. The three challenging and scenic nines are known as Center, West, and East, referring to their location relative to the clubhouse.

Golf legend Byron Nelson worked as an assistant professional at the club in the mid-1930s, early in his career and represented Ridgewood for several of his early significant victories. Nelson went on to become one of golf's all-time greatest players. Golf for 4 (caddies extra). Located in Paramus, New Jersey

Hudson National rests on dramatic bluffs high over the Hudson River valley, a breathtaking location that, back in the 1920s, had been the site of the ill-fated Hessian Hills Country Club. (The fireplace and part of the foundation of its clubhouse still exists near the fourth green.) Fazio paid little attention to the old routing, however, dynamiting more than 130,000 cubic feet of rock to fit his design into the rocky terrain. Greens are blazing fast, the primary rough is wispy fescue and bunkers are deep and numerous.

Hudson National has been rated in the Top 100 courses in America since 2005.

Designed in 1947 by famed golf architect Robert Trent Jones, Rockrimmon Country Club's golf course has been described by Golf Magazine as "a hidden gem." Indeed, our finely manicured fairways take full advantage of the rolling New England topography showcasing magnificent vistas, and winding around two pristine lakes.

At 6,800 yards, our course offers our members and their guests a challenging yet highly rewarding and enjoyable golf experience. Each hole requires a unique set of shot making skills, with daunting green-side bunkers guarding lightning fast greens. Nowhere is this more evident than hole #8, where a spectacular risk-reward shot is required or at the signature par 3, 9th hole, crossing Ayers Lake onto a two-tiered, elevated green.

Impeccably maintained, Rockrimmon Country Club plays host to many USGA, MGA and WGA events including the USGA Amateur Sectional Qualifier (2013), the MGA Senior Amateur Championship (2014), and the US Open Sectional Qualifier (2017).

The Rockaway Hunting Club 18 Hole championship Golf Course measures 6,251 yards. It was constructed in 1900 by T. Bendelow, golf course architect, and was redesigned by Albert T. Tillinghast in the mid-1920s. In traditional Scottish Links design, the course is relatively flat with 5 natural water holes. Shifting winds make club selection difficult and shot-making accuracy is of greater importance than length. The par 4, 454 yard 9th hole is regarded as one of the 100 best golf holes in America. The amateur course record of 64 was established in 1991 by the former Men's Champion, Norman H. Chapman.

Scott Cate, the creator of Old Sandwich in Plymouth, Massachusetts promises a Red Carpet treatment and a behind the scenes look at this Coore Crenshaw gem!

59. OLD SANDWICH GOLF CLUB

Bill Coore & Ben Crenshaw (2004)

Old Sandwich Golf Club may be the craftiest Coore-Crenshaw design yet built. Amidst its pines, scrub oaks, gnarly bunkers, chocolate drop mounds, wavy fescue and briar bushes are hints of Baltusrol, National Golf Links, Pine Valley, Pinehurst No 2 and Chicago Golf Club in its cross-bunkering, hazard placement and sandy waste areas. The greens are some of the most rolling of any Coore & Crenshaw design, seeded with a half-dozen bent varieties to give them an old-fashioned mottled appearance. Nobody does old-fashioned better than Coore & Crenshaw.

Somerset Hills is marvelous A.W. Tillinghast design, one of the few that has remained virtually unchanged since it opened in 1918. So it may be the most authentic Tillinghast course on the 100 Greatest. It's a charming, laid-back design that works through seemingly undisturbed rolling terrain, past rock outcroppings and around small-but-distinctive water hazards. Tilly designed this with a spoonful of whimsy, with "dolomite" mounds edging one green and startling knobs within another putting surface. to some outrageous green contours guarded by knobby mounds dubbed dolomites. Like Baltusrol Upper, Somerset Hills has a Tillinghast version of a Redan par 3.

What to Expect: Baltusrol is a historic club with a rich history of hosting national championships. The Lower course has had famous matchups that include George Von Elm defeating Bobby Jones in the 1926 U.S. Amateur, Jack Nicklaus' 1967 and 1980 U.S. Open victories, and Phil Mickelson's win at Baltusrol first effort to host the PGA Championship. The historic grounds feature one of golf's finest clubhouses on a beautiful tree-lined property. When you play Baltusrol you know exactly why the course has hosted so many national championships. Every hole is a solid test of golf with no tricks or quirks - it is straightforward golf with long challenging holes. Don't expect crazy greens, blind shots, or unique style bunkers. Like No. 40 Pikewood National, Pete Dye Golf Club is a 100 Greatest course built atop a West Virginia mining deposit, but in this case, it's an active coal mine. (The club's original name was Coal Ridge.) Evidence of that fact is everywhere, from the strip-mine wall along the par-5 eighth and the black cinder bunkers on the par-4 sixth to the abandoned coal train that curls around the outside of the dogleg on the 10th. There's even a coal mine shaft you can walk through to reach the seventh tee. Construction took so long that Dye's style had evolved by the time the full 18 was finally seeded. Early holes sport the railroad-tie motif of Oak Tree National while later holes feature the echo-chamber bunkering of Whistling Straits.
