ARTIST'S STATEMENT: The Rebirth of Us represents a memorial unto the communities and families whose children disappear from their mothers in Atlanta between 1979 and 1981. Mothers are the lifeline of the community and our families. They represent a circle of closeness and protection within our neighborhoods. However, that circle was broken when these Black bodies were taken from their mothers, who birthed them from their wombs. - Sheila Pree Bright
