Hello to all, my name is Cheryl Fitzer-Attas and I joined the Board of the American Friends of Soroka Medical Center (AFSMC) about 18 months ago. I have the honor of serving as the chair of the Soroka Friends' Medical and Scientific Advisory Council.

I was born and raised in New York and made Aliyah to Israel at the age of 19, with just a gut feeling that Israel was the place I wanted to grow my career and start my family one day. Today I am proud to say I hold three degrees from Israeli academic institutions, have worked in the pharma & biotech industry for over 20 years, and call Israel my home. I am most proud to say my Aliyah was a success since I now have two sabra grandchildren living in Tel Aviv!

Working in the US for the past 8 years, and becoming more entrenched in 'corporate America', I began to search for a volunteer opportunity to give back to the community. As I learned more about Soroka, I was drawn to its unique position in Israel: the only hospital in the Negev, one that serves an exceptionally large geography and a hugely diverse population. I believe Soroka and its employees have taken advantage of this unique position to bring innovation and excellence to the Negev and to the medical community at large.

Being part of Soroka allows me to contribute in ways that leverage my professional expertise as well as my passion for science, for Israel, and for diversity. I look forward to meeting all of you as we gather for this Virtual Gala for an organization that means so much to us. Please join me today in support of Soroka Medical Center!
