Enjoy a personal Zoom-based introduction to the history, love, resilience, and heartbreak that led to the creation of the Remembrance Garden at Southern CT State University. This in-depth and personalized discussion will include William Faraclas, SCSU professor and founder of SCSU's Department of Public Health, and Dan Camenga, public garden enthusiast and NHSO's Development Director.

Following the personal Zoom-based discussion and introduction, enjoy an optional guided walking tour of the Remembrance Garden and nearby outdoor campus highlights.

From the fall of 2016 until the dedication of the garden on May 4, 2018, Dan and Bill served as the co-leads of the volunteer Reflection Garden Council. The Council was composed of a group of students, staff, faculty, and community members. Together, they led the planning, visioning, fundraising, and installation on behalf of the University in order to complete the 2013 vision of establishing a memorial to the four Southern alumnae killed during the Sandy Hook tragedy (4 out of the 6 adults were members of the SCSU community).

The beautiful garden includes a custom and exclusive 10 ft tall wooden sculpture built by the world renowned Brooklin Boat Yard in Brooklin, Maine. The garden's design was developed by the Julie Moir Messervy Design Studio, owned and led by Julie Moir Messervy who worked with Yo Yo Ma in 1998 to create the Music Garden located at Toronto's Harborfront.

The discussion and optional tour will be scheduled at a mutually agreeable time for the buyer and tour guides. Join Dan and Bill for a unique tour of the Remembrance Garden, one of New Haven's important public garden spaces and discover interesting links between music and public gardens!
