AFS Privacy Policy and Web Site Terms

I consent to allowing American Fisheries Society to capture and use my personal data. I understand and have read the Terms of Service and understand that I may revoke this consent at any time.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it
We may collect personal identification information from Users in a variety of ways, including, but not limited to, when Users visit our site, register on the site, place an order, subscribe to the newsletter, respond to a survey, fill out a form, and in connection with other activities, services, features or resources we make available on our Site. Users may be asked for, as appropriate, name, email address, mailing address, phone number, credit card information. Users may, however, visit our Site anonymously. We will collect personal identification information from Users only if they voluntarily submit such information to us. American Fisheries Society may collect and use Users personal information for the following purposes:

To send Users information they agreed to receive about topics we think will be of interest to them.

If User decides to opt-in to our mailing list, they will receive emails that may include society news, updates, related product or service information, etc. If at any time the User would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails, we include detailed unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of each email or User may contact us via our Site.

We may use financial information or payment method to process payment for any purchases, subscriptions or sales made on our website, to protect against or identify possible fraudulent transactions, and otherwise as needed to manage our business. We will maintain a record of your purchases, transactional information, your services history, and usage. We may also retain your communications with us and our responses. We do not store personally identifiable financial information such as credit card information. Rather, we use third party financial service providers to facilitate and process financial transactions. These providers may include banks, credit card intermediaries, and processors, etc.

Sometimes we need to share your information with our third-party service providers, who help us provide and support our services and other business functions such as book sales, journal publication, and meeting registration. For example, we use service providers to assist with the following: analyzing data, hosting data, engaging technical support, processing payments, delivering content, mailing journals to subscribers or allowing online access, email distribution, and providing customer service.

Who we share your data with
We do not sell, trade, or rent Users personal identification information to others. We may share generic aggregated demographic information not linked to any personal identification information regarding visitors and users with our business partners, trusted affiliates, and advertisers for the purposes outlined above. We may use third-party service providers to help us operate our business and the Site or administer activities on our behalf, such as sending out newsletters or surveys. We may share your information with these third parties for those limited purposes provided that you have given us your permission.

Embedded content from other websites
Items on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

 These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

How we protect your data
We adopt appropriate data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of your personal information, username, password, transaction information and data stored on our Site.

Sensitive and private data exchange between the Site and its Users happens over a SSL secured communication channel and is encrypted and protected with digital signatures.

Cross border transfers
AFS may transfer your personal information outside of your country of residence. In order to process your transactions, we may store your personal information on our servers and those servers may reside outside the country where you live. Our current server is located in the United States. What third parties we receive data from
AFS may receive information about you if you use any of the other websites we operate or the other services we provide. We encourage Users to frequently check this page for any changes to stay informed about how we are helping to protect the personal information we collect.
