Michelle Hoover is co-founder and leader of the GrubStreet Novel Incubator program. She is a 2014 NEA Fellow and has taught writing as the Fannie Hurst Writer-in-Residence at Brandeis University, as well as at Boston University, Emerson College, Bucknell University, and other universities for more than twenty-five years. Ethan Gilsdorf is a journalist, memoirist, essayist, critic, poet, teacher, performer, and nerd. He is the author of the travel memoir investigation Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks, and his work has been named a "Notable" essay in the anthology Best American Essays 2016. His essays, articles, reviews, commentaries, fiction, and poetry have appeared in the New York Times, Boston Globe, Wired, Salon, Poetry, The Southern Review and elsewhere. A former Paris-based food and film critic and travel writer, Gilsdorf works as a freelance journalist, and teaches at GrubStreet, where he leads GrubStreet's Essay Incubator program and where he co-founded GrubStreet's Young Adult Writers Program (YAWP). He also leads writing workshops for non-profit social justice organizations, and also teaches creative writing and Dungeons & Dragons classes. He is the winner of the Hobblestock Peace Poetry Competition and the Esme Bradberry Contemporary Poets Prize, and has been awarded residencies at the Millay Colony for the Arts, Vermont Studio Center and Writing Downtown (Las Vegas), and grants from the Somerville Arts Council and Vermont Arts Council. He served on the Board of Directors of GrubStreet for ten years.
