In the Middle Ages and in many parts of the world, flowers were often assigned meaning. Irises symbolize hope in this language of flowers. It interests me that flowers, though they are ephemeral, were used as messengers for ideas that can transcend time. I employed a splatter technique and soft watercolor splotches to make the flowers feel like they are ageless.

I've decided to call my painting this because with all that has happened this year or any other year for that matter, times can seem dark in this rollercoaster called life. Bad things happen to everybody eventually, no matter the age. But nevertheless, we need to keep looking up to what is to come, knowing that we will eventually overcome these obstacles. Because even in darkness, there will always be hope.
