Start your morning off right here at the Topeka Zoo. Your party of 6 will begin the day at 8:00 AM in the location of your choice! See what happens early in the morning as the staff prepares the zoo for guests and tends to the animal's habitat. You may see various toys, scents, or food being set-out by our team in the patas monkey, lion, painted dog, and cougar areas. Listen to the rainforest birds come alive as they sing their choruses while you search for sloths at first light. Before the end of your breakfast, you will have the first glimpse as the animals explore.

Meet with one of the Animal Care Supervisor and choose between three animal encounters! Select three animals from the list to meet: elephants, giraffes, black bears, African painted dogs, Hoffmann's sloth, alligator, owl, skunk, hippo, or pronghorn. After the private tour, enjoy a catered lunch with the supervisor(s) and have the opportunity to ask any questions relating to our animals, their care, or about zookeeping!

Go behind-the-scenes to meet our African and Asian elephants, Cora and Tembo. Join us for a summer day when we harvest honey from our very own beehives. We begin around 9 am on a weekday after the frames are pulled out of the hive boxes. Learn how the extraction process takes place; how you cut the honey off the comb and sneak a sample as you help bottle the golden delight into jars. This is a beautiful well polished parrot rosewood carving from Panama. These wood carvings are done by the artists of the Wounaan or Embera tribes who live in the rain forests of Panama.

This one of-a-kind piece is beautiful. This African Crane Bowl (Hanks Bowl) by Leanne Kilmer was rake fired, with crane feathers, sugar and shedded snake skin. It is 4"x 6 1/2"

The colors, creativity, beauty, it truly is a one-of-a-kind piece. This art compilation of all 3 of Topeka Zoo's female giraffes, Abi, Hope, and Liz, was created by a talented local artist, Kim Scott. Kim got involved with the zoo earlier this year when she collaborated on a piece with our orangutans that helped raise money for our Roar & Pour Wine Fest virtual event. She is so creative with the various art styles and the mix of objects and fibers she includes to make each one so unique.

Wow. It's hard to put into words the fantastic work from Kathleen Otto, and the fierce look in Avus's face. You know those friends who always take the perfect photo, well for us, that's Avus, our male African Lion. He works that camera and is one of our favorite models. This canvas print is 12 x 12.

We love this picture it truly shows the bond between the two. This canvas print is of Cora & Tembo and is 11 x 17.

Cora is 62 years old, our Asian Elephant, but when she was much younger she starred alongside legendary actors Burt Reynolds and Sally Field. Cora played "Charlotte" in "Smokey and the Bandit II" in 1980.

Our African elephant, Tembo was born in Africa on January 1, 1971, and arrived at the Topeka Zoo in 1976. Tembo is loved by many in our community and she certainly enjoys being pampered by staff.

Our beloved orangutan Lena passed away earlier this year. She was so special to many people. Friends would visit the zoo frequently because that connection was one like no other, and Lena could turn anyone's day around or put a smile on your face with her sweet kisses that she blew.

Widge Yager worked on this piece before Lena passed and reached out to donate it in her honor. It's so beautiful, and is made with fine art pencils, which is so cool! This framed piece is 36.5 L x 24.5 W in size.
