About the Artist:
Alexi Torres discusses the relationship between nature and man in a contemporary context emphasizing the interconnectedness of all living things. His works are exceptionally complex, intricately weaving together organic and symbolic elements to create monumental works which challenge the viewer to see beneath the surface into the archetypal qualities of his subjects. He seeks to initiate a dialogue on the effects and power of human thought and behavior on the ever-changing environment, and the need of appreciation of what is.
Torres taps into universal collective memory with playful themes and ironic juxtapositions relevant to the contemporary experience. His series range from portraits of ordinary people, cultural, military to a diverse sampling of symbols from popular culture. These images are then reimagined and reconstructed employing a unique multi-layer painting technique. Inspired by the agrarian lifestyle of his friends and family, Torres plants an idea for each new work and harvests it at completion according to the lunar patterns followed by his ancestors in his native Cuba. To record this ritual, each painting is begun and finished on a waning moon and recorded with his signature on the canvas.
Alexi Torres was born in 1976 in Bermeja, a small village about 70 miles southeast of Havana, Cuba. From 1989-1991 he studied at Escuela Provicial de Artes in Mantanzas and 1991-1995 at Escuela Nacional de Artes in Havana. Maggie Hasbrouck has been living and working as an artist in Atlanta for almost thirty years. She began receiving major national acclaim in the early 1990s when her work was collected by celebrities including Elton John, John Mellencamp, Faith Hill, Jon Bon Jovi, and Courtney Cox, as well as a broad cross-section of collectors across the United States. Her work is the epitome of the intersection of classical beauty and contemporary concept. To this day, Maggie Hasbrouck remains one of the best-collected female artists in the South and a growing force on the national stage. She is represented in Atlanta by the Bill Lowe Gallery.
In her latest body of work, Hasbrouck returns to dramatic depictions of flowers - often single blooms - at the apex of their transformational beauty. The vibrancy and sensuality of these images is heightened by the artist's technique. Hasbrouck combines digital imagery, multiple layers of oil paint, dry pigment, and organic beeswax, resulting in a lustrous layer that enhances the mystery of the work. Throughout the course of her career, Maggie's technical ingenuity and imaginative subject matter have helped her gain recognition from collectors and critics alike. Her paintings possess a deep emotionality that is achieved through a rich, dark picture plane illuminated by an enigmatic light source. The flowers seem to exist in a state of Grace, in-between reality and a dream-like state of transcendence.

Whatever the subject, Stratton's intent is the same? capture the essence of his surroundings. Since a camera does not capture all the levels of light that the human eye can see, Stratton captures multiple levels of exposure in each photograph, reviving the dynamic range of light that gets lost in translation between man and machine. Growing up in a rural beach town, Stratton was enamored by the magic of his surroundings from a young age. Photography was also deeply integrated into his roots; his great grandmother was one of the first ever models for Kodak, and his grandmother worked on the original program of Photoshop. Stratton took these passions and has traveled to over 20 countries around the world capturing and collecting images that feed his soul. Douglas Stratton was born in Ocean City, New Jersey in 1982. He has studied at the College of Charleston in South Carolina as well as the Art Institute of Atlanta. Richard Russell began making collages in elementary school. Following two years at Florida School of the Arts in Palatka, Florida, and with his eyes set on a future in Graphic Design, he migrated to the Atlanta College of Art. Upon being advised by a faculty member that the fine arts had no place in design, he abandoned his ad agency goals to find passion in other mediums and finally graduated with a BFA in Photography in 1990. (Ironically, he has been a graphic designer and art director for the past 2 decades.) Throughout his career as an artist, he has continued to work in various combinations of collage, photography, and artists' book formats. As a maker of books, he is fascinated by the rapid decline of this object as both a vehicle of communication and an art form. He has exhibited in solo and group shows across the U.S. and Europe (and possibly Japan, but this can't be verified.) His work is part of major venues including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Virginia Commonwealth University, the New York Public Library, and the Sackner Collection of Visual and Concrete Poetry in Miami, as well as many private collections around the world. In 2008, he was honored to be selected one of the Top Five Finalists for the Forward Arts Foundation's Emerging Artist of the Year Award and in 2009 as a Fellow at the Hambidge Center for Arts and Sciences.

Encaustic, meaning "to burn in," was developed in the first century by the Egyptians, Romans and the Greeks. Chesney's pieces use organic beeswax, oil pastels developed by Picaso, and exquisite parchments collected from around the world. The parchments are made using techniques that have been handed down through the millennia.

I've always found things more interesting once they were taken apart. My fascination with process, structure, and the way things work has always been a driving force in my artistic pursuits. Previously, I have become known for wheel-thrown pottery that was dissected and reassembled, yielding decorative lines with structural and psychological implications. Are those simple lines, or are they scars? What story do they tell?
After nearly a decade working along a fixed process and concept, I needed a new experience in the studio. During a summer residency at Studio 740, I had the chance to change things up. The result is a new way of making molds, which are systemic in their design and fully modular in use. Any piece or combination of pieces can be replaced by any other piece or combination of pieces, and it all clicks together on circular keys.
I see this work as a continuation of the ideas explored previously, but through a shift in processes, the mold is now the tool by which the forms are deconstructed and reconstructed. With each addition of a new module, a slew of new combinations are possible. As the library grows, the possibilities in form are amplified and the forms evolve and react. My experience in making these is exploratory. As I build the object in void, the presence of a form is only revealed when I de-mold the object. Flashing, the lines that are the result of mold parting lines, have replaced the lines previously cut into form.
Biography Jeff Campana is currently an Associate Professor of Art at Kennesaw State University outside of Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to his arrival at Kennesaw, he was a long-term Artist-in-Residence at the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts. Additionally, he has been a short term artist at Studio 740 and Red Lodge Clay Center. He has taught at Bennington College, the University of Louisville, and Indiana University Southeast. He holds an MFA from Indiana University Bloomington, and a BFA from University of Wisconsin - Whitewater. His work appears in numerous publications and he exhibits across the United States.

Robert Sherer is an internationally exhibiting American visual artist/activist. His multimedia art explores race, gender and sexual identity. He is best known for his use of unconventional media (HIV+ blood and pyrography) and for four incidents of art censorship.
His career in the arts has also covered such disciplines as arts juror, critic, lecturer, educator, art dealer and international art competitor. Sherer studied the two-dimensional arts of drawing, painting and printmaking at Walker College, Atlanta College of Art, Georgia State University, Rhode Island School of Design, and Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where he received his M.F.A. degree in 1992.
In 2002, he represented the USA in the Triennale de Paris in Paris, France. In 2001 and 2007, he represented the USA in the Florence Biennale in Florence, Italy. In the 2007 competition, Sherer was awarded a Lorenzo de Medici (il Magnifico) medal for his American Pyrography series.

Jenny Henley is an Atlanta based fine artist working with a methodology that embraces sculptural practices in a two-dimensional mixed-media framework. Typically, Henley uses socially recognizable imagery, appropriate for an audience familiar with contemporary notions of art; yet fused to a slightly nostalgic sensibility.
My original photographs are transferred in archival pigments onto hand-built poplar substrates, then carefully enhanced with paint. It's a process that allows me the immediacy and implied narrative inherent to photography, wed to the gestural connotations of paint. That I work on panel allows me to create a stable object that is inert and will retain its depth and nuance for years to come.
Henley has won prestigious awards including Women in Design at ELLE DECOR and Cooper-Hewitt, National Design Museum and has been a part of Atlanta's art community organizations being one of the original founders of i45 and is the founder of the First Friday Art Walk Marietta Square.

I've a fascination for mechanisms, machinery, wood, and metals. My artistic vision draws from a deeply rooted, life-long affinity for automobiles and automotive design. I create using various hand and power tools for both metalworking and woodworking aspects, reconstructing found objects into up-cycled sculptures and assemblage art. Many of the mechanisms that cross my path are beyond being useful in their original purpose; but, I strive for inventiveness in their repurposing and hope to preserve some nostalgia of those things discarded. I'd like to provide a spark to ignite inspiration to those who see my work, to drive others to look more carefully at the world around them, and to notice treasures in unusual places. I strive for quality, detailed works with strong visual and tactile appeal.

Jonathan Ware is an Atlanta-based corporate attorney and self-taught digital artist. At the height of the COVID-19 crisis, he created a series of mandalas representing his own attempts to find centeredness in a world seemingly falling apart. Mandalas are geometric patterns, the creation of which induces a meditative trance. The mandala itself represents a microcosm of the universe, with the point of stillness at its center symbolizing the stillness that can be found in the depths of one's own heart.
Ware created the piece entitled "Centered" by drawing a magenta line at random across a blue field, using a digital algorithm to shape the line into a geometric pattern. Ware states, "The algorithm represents the unseen organizing principle of the universe - what some may call God, Allah, Buddha or the Unified Field. A seemingly random and chaotic set of events finds deeper meaning and purpose, as it unfolds from a sphere of higher consciousness just beyond our ordinary awareness."

Jim Greenwood paints as if there's no tomorrow. Because he has to.
In fact, as his eyesight continues an inexorable decline, he is in a race against time.
Jim suffers from Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP), an untreatable and incurable eye disease that leaves the retina covered with pigments and then scarred. First comes the loss of night vision. Then loss of peripheral vision. Then loss of central vision. The retina controls the ability to read, recognize faces and colors and to see objects in detail. "With being color blind as well, I use only primary colors: red, blue and yellow, along with white, on my pallet and mix them to get the desired hue. It's the only way that works for me." He is now legally-blind having only five percent of his visual field remaining with a central vision at 20/500..
Jim is tall, outwardly in good health, with a background in both art and athletics, along with a stint in the Marine Corps. For the last ten years, he has been unable to drive a car. He needs assitance deciphering emails and reads from a device with copy enlarged to the maximum size. Yet, he paints. furiously, because he has to. For decades, Jim's paintings took a back seat to his career as an art director and graphic designer with various Atlanta ad agencies and The Coca-Cola Company. He and his wife, Gayle, raised two children, sent them off to col- lege, and looked forward to more time at the beach and in the mountains. Then, adversity came calling. When Jim's condition worsened, he was forced to phase himself out of his day job. A gradual return to his passion of painting ensued. At first, there were a few landscapes. still life works that re- minded him of the art he did for his classes at Florida State. Most of it was, in his words, "uninspiring and nothing that stood out from the crowd." He was depressed by the loss of his graphics vocation and unenthused about his art. He worried about the future and his sight.
Along the way, as his vision deteriorated, something happened. His paintings became different. Reality gave way to expressionism. Details gave way to vague, indistinct images. His work became conceptual. Landscapes looked as if they were seen from behind thick glass. Yet, colors were vibrant, exaggerated. His paintings were ambiguous and hopeful at the same time.
What was happening? Jim realized that he was now painting as he saw the world. The way he was now seeing it, legally-blind.
His work is stunning. It's not mere expressionism. There is form and content. Shapes are loosely defined, objects are at times unrecognizable. The effect is emotional. One wants to stare at his paintings. They are, in a way, like life is to those of us who are not legally-blind: indistinct and mysterious. There is a revelation in them that truth is not in the details. Rather it is shrouded in vagueness.

Laura is an Atlanta native currently residing in Inman Park right on the beltline, AKA the coolest part of town. Don't @ us. The decision to live in Inman Park was motivated by the fact she could walk to five different restaurants within a quarter-mile radius and find tacos. Long live the Holy sandwich.
She received her B.A. in English + Creative Writing from the University of Georgia in 2016. After a brief sight-seeing tour of the corporate world, she decided to worry her loved ones and recklessly venture down the road less traveled by pursuing a life of entrepreneurship. In addition to creating art, she runs a full stack marketing agency for law firms. She enjoys the challenge of helping attorneys find their own light by creatively illustrating their stories through digital channels.
When she's not working, Laura can be found hiding in a bookstore with a cup of coffee, pretending to be the next Muhammad Ali in the boxing gym, pursuing a life of health and fitness sometimes, exploring the Atlanta culinary scene, traveling excessively, and finding ways to be overly kind to people until it makes them feel awkward.

Before leaving for Japan over twenty five years ago, he spent $1.95 on the only art book he could afford. At the back of this small book by the woodblock print artist Tokuriki was an invitation, "if the reader of this book has a chance to visit Kyoto, feel free to contact the author." Daniel Kelly went to Kyoto and learned traditional Japanese woodblock printing from Tokuriki.
Kelly is an exciting artist with and ever-changing style. All of his prints from the last several years have some element of mixed media, including woodblock, lithography, cement block printing, chine colle and hand coloring.
Kelly says of his process, "I really do not like it if I have a concept - it does not exist yet - and people say you are going to run into this and that problem. I want to slap those people out of my way. If there is a problem, I dig deeper. Painting and creative printmaking is like war. I get in there and battle and fight. It is either me or the image. One of us will win."
About Printmaking
"In the Kyoto studio prints are made on a variety of papers including antique Japanese book pages and papers I import from Nepal, Thailand and the Philippines. These papers are combined in what is known as chine-collé at different stages of the printing process. Carving wood blocks and printing is done by myself and my assistants using water based pigments. On top of this I sometimes add lithography in professional print studios in Japan and the U.S.A. I believe I have created the largest wood block prints ever made in Japan." - Daniel Kelly

James Haverty Smith's life as a visual artist spans more than four decades. He received his bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He received a master's degree in Architecture from Harvard's Graduate School of Design graduating with highest honors and earned the top design award. He has served as Design Principal in the Atlanta office of Perkins and Will, one of the largest architectural design firms in the world. Jimmy won numerous design awards while at Perkins and Will, and recently served as Design Director in the Dubai, UAE and Amman, Jordan offices of Dar Al Handasah, Perkins and Will's affiliate company in the Middle East. This past year he moved back to Atlanta and retired to focus more fully on his passion for painting. James is married to Mary Anne Walser and has three children and five grandchildren. His three children have all also pursued careers in the arts, following in their father's footsteps.

Carl Linstrum's professional experience spans a broad range, including his work as an internationally exhibiting painter, through nearly twenty years as a gallery owner and art consultant, and into his current position as a professor in the School of Foundation Studies at SCAD Atlanta. He received his BA in Printmaking from The University of South Florida in 1992 and his MFA in Drawing and Painting from Georgia State University in 2002.
In his role as a professional artist, Carl has accumulated an extensive exhibition record, participating in solo and group exhibitions regionally, nationally and internationally in galleries, museums and universities. His drawings and paintings have been collected into numerous private, corporate and public collections throughout his career. As owner of Aliya Linstrum Gallery from 1992 until 2009, Mr. Linstrum represented a highly respected stable of artists working in all media. He worked closely with these artists, securing commissions and curating exhibitions with the intent of aggressively developing their careers as professionals in their field. During these years, Carl also served on the board of the Atlanta Gallery Association, whose goal was to promote the active visual arts community in Atlanta and highlight the city's role as the cultural capital of the South. Since joining SCAD Atlanta in 2009, he has taught a full range of drawing and design courses in the School of Foundation Studies and the School of Fine Arts.

I have been surrounded by art all my life.
Entertainment came in the form of building something, whether it was clay, paint, wood or paper. We were always creating something. I can remember painting with my mother on the same canvas. She would start painting at the top of the canvas and I would start at the bottom. When I grew tired, she would finish the painting.
My parents opened the Ann Jackson Gallery in 1971. Working in the family business allowed me the time to quietly paint, which was something that I loved to do.
In 1999, I gave birth to a medically fragile child. His only chance to live was to rely on machines for the first four years of his life. I wanted to support other families who had medically fragile children but who did not have the support that I had. So I began having fundraisers. The first fundraiser, called Auction for Hope, was held at the gallery. People were excited to donate money for my paintings! It was at this event that I knew what my mission in life was: to paint and do good will.
Most of my paintings are of a turbulent sky crossing over a vast landscape, but somewhere above there is always a glimpse of a brighter day coming. I believe through adversity comes tranquility, and I want my paintings to reflect hope and tranquility.

Aaron Adams is an abstract painter and mixed-media artist born and raised in rural Michigan before relocating to Atlanta, Ga in 1994. His artwork is known to incorporate both traditional and more experimental artistic techniques. He creates deeply moving and emotive works by suspending powdered pigments, colorful alcohol inks, acrylic paints and textures in epoxy resin.
The artist has always had an appreciation for the arts and photography but it wasn't until he was recovering from meningitis over a decade ago that he discovered his interest and passion in creating abstract art.
Aaron's work explores how the emotional impact of color can be juxtaposed with texture to engage the viewer and make them an active participant in determining the image's meaning.
Although he chooses the color pallet, materials, and overall feeling he wants to convey in each work, he has learned to appreciate what the final product will evolve into. Images evoke impressions of many different places and things for the viewer ranging from earthly landscapes, to microscopic cellular anatomy and even magnificent galaxies or swirling cosmic storms.

Ricardo Corporán is a certified human resources professional at Alston & Bird, where he has been employed for seven (7) years. In his current position as the firm's Diversity & Inclusion Administrator, Ricardo works closely with the firm's national and regional Diversity & Inclusion Committees and the national and regional Women's Initiative Committees. In his role, Ricardo administers the various diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives throughout the firm as both a project manager and an event planner. Ricardo also coordinates the firm's involvement with diverse bar leadership organizations, including carrying out and following through on sponsorship deliverables (i.e., complimentary passes, logo submissions, advertisements, etc.) associated with the firm's numerous sponsorships. Ricardo also currently serves on the Board of Trustees at Theatrical Outfit, where he is the chair of the Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion Committee and a member of both the Human Resources Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee.
Ricardo's unique experiences and perspectives as a gay, mixed-race, Hispanic, second-generation descendant of hard-working Cuban, Dominican, and Puerto Rican immigrants are what fuel his passion for the work that he does in the way of diversity, equity, and inclusion. This is also why Ricardo is a devoted community advocate and often volunteers his time and skills to organizations where he feels he can make an impact. Growing up in Mississippi in a family of storytellers and writers, Kathy McCullen discovered the world of her imagination early in life and has been passionate about art for as long as she can remember. Primarily a self-taught painter, Kathy studied art, literature, and special education at Mississippi State University and had a long career as a teacher. Initially, Kathy focused on art as a therapeutic tool for her students with emotional and learning challenges and taught children's classes in drawing and painting. Ten years ago, however, Kathy began concentrating solely on her own painting and her bold, colorful work is exhibited in Atlanta and Charleston galleries and can be seen in private and corporate collections across the United States and Europe.
While her early work focused on figurative subjects, Kathy's current paintings tell stories of an imaginary world using abstracted images and has been described as poetic. At heart a colorist, Kathy enjoys experimenting with media and techniques and has developed a highly original, appealing style of her own. The use of collage, acrylics, oil pastels, ink, and charcoal allows her to achieve opaque and translucent layers and to create structures from the happy accidents that occur. In her process, compositions build themselves, as Kathy allows intuition to guide the evolution of each painting. Kathy says, "Inspiration and essence are as important to me as the end product. I become completely absorbed with my subject, as colors and shapes reveal themselves, in the process creating, deconstructing, and painting over, until what I have been looking for is finally found."
