In early 2021, the Philadelphia Museum of Art will open newly constructed and reinstalled galleries of American art, featuring its prized collection of paintings, furniture, and decorative arts spanning the colonial years through the 1840s. The new spaces--part of architect Frank Gehry's revisioning of the museum's landmark 1928 building--double the square footage devoted to this period and bring new interpretive light to early American art, artists, artisans, and patrons. This lot comprises an exclusive, behind-the-scenes private tour (for a small group), courtesy of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, of those new galleries with Alexandra Kirtley, one of the four museum curators who spearheaded the reinstallation and reinterpretation. In addition, the successful bidder will receive a signed copy of the museum's first-ever catalogue of its celebrated collection of early American furniture (Kirtley, PMA/Yale U Press, 336 pages), which is on schedule to be available in early November.
