About Solebury School's 2021 Auction
Hosted by The Home and School Association, the Solebury School Auction is a fun, festive event usually held each spring at a local off-campus venue. It is attended by parents, faculty, alumni, and benefactors, and includes dinner, cocktails, and live entertainment. This year's final auction format and location are currently TBD and will be dependent on health and safety considerations in place as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Auction will either be Live at the Inn at Lambertville Station on May 7, 2021, Virtual on or around May 7, 2021, or a hybrid of both. We look forward to sharing more details right here over the next few months!
Broadway: On with the Show!
Solebury School's rich history in the performing arts and the perseverance that our students, faculty, staff, and families have shown during this challenging time deserve celebration. With this in mind, we couldn't think of a better theme for our 2021 auction than Broadway: On with the Show! Regardless of its final format, this event will be a lively evening for our community to come together and revel in the indomitable spirit of the theater!
Why do we have the auction?
Our only major fundraising event, the auction raises around $100,000 and supports the Solebury community in a variety of ways. Each year, $10,000 is allocated to make the work of the HSA possible. In addition, auction proceeds have supported projects, including:
- A kitchen renovation in the Holmquist dormitory
- A fund helping students with demonstrated financial need participate in cultural and extracurricular trips
- An upgraded sound system in the PAC
- New dining hall chairs
- An endowed fund matched by the Page and Otto Marx Jr. Foundation that provides tuition support for students of color with demonstrated financial need
The Special Appeal?
Each year, there is also a "Special Appeal" where supporters can give directly to a specified cause through a "paddle call." Last year, the Special Appeal provided funds that directly supported our students and community during the COVID-19 pandemic. In past years, the Special Appeal has funded projects such as the IDEA Lab, a Lighting System in the Barn Theater, and Above and Beyond Endowed Awards for Faculty and Staff.
