As the area's premier no-kill shelter, the Humane Society of Sarasota County (HSSC) engages the hearts, hands, and minds of the community to help animals. HSSC receives no federal funding, nor are we affiliated with any other humane organization. We rely solely on contributions from individuals, corporations, and donations to achieve our lifesaving work.
Over 1,800 animals receive food, medicine, and loving care in our facility each year. In addition, HSSC offers community-enriching programs: an affordable public animal clinic, humane education, pet therapy, obedience courses, a pet food pantry, and more.

General Questions
What is the Howl-O-Ween Giveathon?
The Howl-O-Ween Giveathon is a month-long fundraiser that benefits lifesaving programs and animal welfare at the Humane Society of Sarasota County (HSSC). Due to the COVID pandemic, fundraising is more critical than ever since HSSC has not been able to host in-person events to generate donations.
Our goal for the event is to raise $15,000, so please join us in helping animals in need in our community.
When and where is the Howl-O-Ween Giveathon?
Due to COVID-19, HSSC will be holding this event virtually. You can attend from the comfort of your own home, whether you live here in Sarasota or halfway across the globe. The Howl-O-Ween Giveathon will start Thursday, October 1, and end Friday, October 30.
How is this event virtual?
The entire fundraiser will be held online. You can enter your pet in the contest, donate, and vote all from this website. You can even text to donate.
How do I participate in the Howl-O-Ween Giveathon?
You can join in our mission to raise funds for our shelter animals by donating through this website (See Donate section) or by entering your pet in the Pet Costume Contest for a $15 registration fee (more details below). Once you register, you'll be provided with instructions for submitting your pet's photo(s). On October 30 at 8pm, HSSC will hold a Facebook Live to announce the contest winners and showcase our Spooky Shelter Tour.
Pet Costume Contest Questions
How do I register my pet for the contest?
To register, click the "Sign Up" button under the "Registraton and Sponsorships" section and select the $15 ticket for the Pet Costume Contest. Once you register, you'll be provided with instructions for submitting your pet's photo(s). Submissions will be accepted from October 1 through October 16. If you do not submit your pet's photos by the deadline, you forfeit your entry and your registration fee will be considered a donation.
When will I see my pet on the website?
Your pet's photo will appear on the website within 24 hours of your submission.
When can I vote for my pets' photo in the contest?
Voting begins October 17 and ends October 29.
How will I know if my pet won?
Winners will be announced on HSSC's Facebook page via Facebook Live on October 30 at 8pm.

We rely solely on contributions from individuals, organizations, and corporations. HSSC receives no federal funding, nor are we funded by any national humane organization.
