Deanna McLaughlin, founder of CARTrageous Jewelry, began exhibiting her work in 1986. An insatiable thirst to learn new skills while working with a variety of media sustains her never-ending inspiration to create. Experiencing people from other places and cultures has greatly influenced her approach to looking at life with an ever-fresh perspective. Academic achievements include M.A./M.A.T. Jen Blazina

In Transience, vintage purses were found in thrift stores and cast in glass. A woman's purse has always been a very personal and private object. To cast it in glass, therefore making it appear translucent, gives the piece a very voyeuristic sense.

Jen Blazina is a sculptor and printmaker who uses glass as her primary medium. She is a working artist and a professor at Drexel University. Blazina's work is in collections such as the Neuberger Museum of Art, The Imagine Museum, The Cranbrook Museum of Art, and the Corning Museum of Glass. She has been awarded multiple residencies: the Corning Artist in Residency, Corning Museum of Glass; GAPP Residency at Toledo Museum of Art; Bezalel Art and Design Academy in Jerusalem, Israel; and CGCA. Awards include: Bessie and Louis Stein Fellowship; Independence Foundation; and the National Endowment for the Arts.

M. Dale Chase

These four metal pill or ring boxes by M. Dale Chase were made during a sabbatical from wood box making during the 1990s. Chase explored creating metal boxes in combinations of gold, silver, and blued gunmetal. Using an ornamental lathe, he created hundreds of round, square, six sided, oval, and thin wafer-like boxes with one or two compartments. These lidded gold-toned boxes utilize the Guilloché technique to create contrasting patterns on the surfaces. A couple have threaded lids. Others slide precisely onto the bottoms.

M. Dale Chase took to ornamental turning after 32 years as a vascular surgeon. Ornamental turning utilizes Holtzapffel and Rose Engine lathes developed in England during the 1800's. Shaped metal cutters are oriented to cut patterns into wood. Chase first experimented with a 150 year-old Holtzapffel lathe, then transitioned to using the Rose Engine lathe. From early boxes patterned on the exterior, his focus shifted to simple forms with interior patterns. Chase boxes are included in the Smithsonian Renwick Gallery, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and 100 in the collection at the Center for Art in Wood.

Forge & Finish

Dilated Brooch was inspired by fashion designers such as Rae Kawakubo and Ann Demeulemeester. This sterling silver brooch's domed base adds dimension to the wearer's ensemble using a magnetic form of clasp, the rounded backing disappearing under the wearer's clothes, leaving the minimalist domed top on the exterior.
