Roberta Massuch

This large porcelain bowl is perfect for salads, fruit, or other dishes to be shared! Its interior glaze is a pale peach and the exterior is a soft satin white glaze. Hand-washing is recommended.

Roberta Massuch lives and works in Philadelphia where she is a Resident Artist at The Clay Studio, and works as the studio technician and faculty at The Community College of Philadelphia. Originally from Minneapolis, MN, she received her BFA from Northern Illinois University in 2005 and her MFA from Louisiana State University in May 2013. Past residencies include: Worcester Center for Craft, Northern Clay Center, and Tyler School of Art. She was awarded a 2015 Independence Foundation Visual Arts Fellowship, which funded her participation in an 8 week Arquetopia Special Ceramics Artist Residency (2016) at the Arquetopia Foundation for Development, in Puebla, Mexico.

Lawrence Spitz

I was trained by Toshiko Takaezu in the mid-sixties when she was artist in residence at Princeton University. I have worked in porcelain pretty much since. I was an associate artist at The Clay Studio between 2010-2015. My interest is to creatively push the limits of porcelain to achieve beauty, strength, and lightness.

Carol Klein

The piece entitled "Turbulence" was created in 2018. Using porcelain slip and glass fiber textile its surfaces are both fractured, twisted and deformed by enormous heat - a predictive commentary on our times.

As an associate at The Clay Studio, my early work in mold making and casting evolved from small, functional, translucent porcelain pieces to intricate, larger pieces. This work while functional, or not, has a novel composition. Using porcelain slip and glass fiber textile to create large vessels and panels, I am modeling unusual fractured and sculptural surfaces in my studio at 319 N 11th St, Philadelphia. My process is intuitive and I strive to discover new expression for these molten media.
