Serena Chen, MD: Hope Award for Advocacy
$10,000
GOAL

Dr. Chen serves as Director for the Division of Reproductive Medicine in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, and the Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Science, and is a Clinical Associate Professor at Rutgers, UMDNJ Medical School and the St George's University School of Medicine. She is one of less than a handful of reproductive endocrinologists recognized by Inside Jersey Magazine as a Top Doctor in Cancer Care for her work freezing eggs for cancer patients and raising physician and public awareness of OncoFertility and Fertility Preservation. Dr. Chen is an active participant in advocacy work for the infertility community: she was among the first group of physicians to attend ASRM's Advocacy Academy in 2015, and she has represented the state of New Jersey at RESOLVE's federal Advocacy Day 4 times since 2016. In her home state of New Jersey, she has advocated for state legislation to cover fertility preservation for cancer patients and others whose medical treatment may cause infertility, which was signed into law in 2020. What's most impressive is that she doesn't stop advocating when the big advocacy event is over; she is always the first to answer RESOLVE's calls for action, using her social media platforms to share important information with her followers, reaching out to colleagues while motivating physicians and patients to raise their voice. Her infectious energy and passion have empowered many to advocate alongside her.
